Jane, From the tiredness issue, I would bet you have adrenal fatigue. Coffee, unfortunately, doesn't help the issue, because as a stimulant it stresses cortisol production, which then taxes the adrenals. A vicious cycle. You can check to see if you have adrenal fatigue; through blood work, from a si...

I would suggest your get your D levels check asap. If you are under the new Obamacare, it won't be covered. It's considered unnecessary.

Tex is right. Most doctors don't check cortisol levels. It's a simple blood test. Blood tests are usually covered by insurance; not sure about the saliva. You can get a morning cortisol blood test, a random cortisol blood test, or an afternoon blood test. Most doctors choose the morning. Cortisol ca...

Interesting. Not to be argumentative, but if this study was for adults older than 65, do you think that then also applies to younger people? I have been taking probiotics, and while I can't say they have helped, I can't say they haven't either. I'm wondering if your digestion is good, probiotics hel...

Deb, Good for you in getting in to see your doctor! I've realized of late that the squeaky wheel really does get the grease! I haven't search to see what your other problems are, but I was just curious about your hormones. Have you ever had your hormones checked? I truly believe, that for most women...

I was told by my PA that taking bio-identicals at night helped with sleep. I tried taking them around the morning and it made me so tired I had to take a nap. Out of curiosity, I called the compounding pharmacist and he confirmed that the progesterone has a calming effect and to take it at night. I'...

I am 50/50 on when to take it. I've taken it at night, and today I tried it in the late morning. Surprisingly, my BP lowered to 90/64! I am usually 120/80, so I am going to try again tomorrow in the late morning to see if it happens again.
Thanks!

I decided to take holy basil to lower my cortisol, since it is high in the morning (anywhere from 19 to 25). I can't seem to lower it (luckiest I've been is 15) no matter how hard I try and my PA thinks that high cortisol is affecting my thyroid. Did you notice any side effects and do you take it be...

Need to pick your brains!

Help! When I was diagnosed with MC two years ago, I was also diagnosed with peri/menopause. Since strangely enough they both had similar symptoms (bloating, D, aches, etc.) it was difficult to know which symptom was which. MC or menopause? Well, I've got the MC under control...normans, etc. and I've...

Holy basil

I'm wondering if anyone here has heard of or taken holy basil? Holy basil is supposed to work wonders for lowering cortisol levels, reduce inflammation, and lower glucose levels. It is also suppose to help with GI problems ant thyroid issues. It sounds too good to be true and yet there are so many g...

How many here have used saliva test instead of blood tests?

Just curious how many people have used a saliva test and did you think the results were more accurate? For example, I have high morning cortisol levels from my blood test. However, I haven't a clue as to what those levels are for the rest of the day. A saliva cortisol test would measure my cortisol ...

I use to go to doctor's appointments, breathlessly hanging on to every word as if it was gospel. Now, when I go in, I'm surprised if I can contain the contempt I have for them. Went to the doctor today, for a yearly EKG. All fine. I mentioned MC to him, and he got this glazed look. Then I also menti...
