How to gain weight on restricted diet?

My husband, who was diagnosed with MC 5 years ago, was 6'5" & 180 lbs. Wiry to begin with. After narrowing down his intolerances (gluten, eggs, dairy, nuts, pork, most fruits & veggies, and corn) and modifying his diet, he now weights 165. Does anyone have any suggestions for gaining we...

Thanks, Tex. He is actually on an antihistamine. He had a bout with severe head congestion, causing motion sickness, and has been taking a daily dose ever since. I will look into getting him some Vitamin D. He's been off Entocort for 4 weeks now, so hopefully things will continue to hold steady. Tha...

Entocort questions

After EnteroLab testing, my husband discovered that he has a corn intolerance, along with gluten, dairy, eggs and oats. Corn was the only thing that he hadn't been avoiding, so we cut that out, and he started on Entocort at roughly the same time. After about 2 weeks, he started to notice a positivie...

Thanks for the info and well wishes. I was starting to figure it out too because he had a flare start yesterday, and the only real difference in his diet was sweet pickles he ate on Monday. I looked at the label this morning. HFCS. Hmmmm. THen the results this afternoon. Although maybe not. One of t...

corn intolerance and xanthan gum

My husband just received his EnteroLab results...Gluten intolerance was no surprise....the big surprise was his corn intolerance. It's a relief because it explains a lot, but it's quite overwhelming how many things are corn derivatives. So since most gluten free processed foods contain xanthan gum, ...

Thanks, Polly, for the statistic. I did not know that...I will tell my husband! Cynthia, I honestly feel like my husband is my own personal science project. Although, we must balance out pretty well. He tends to go with the flow and let whatever happens, happen, while I am pretty anxious, which driv...

Thanks for the info on guar gum and Asacol feedback. I have 2 brands of coconut milk, one has guar gum and the other does not (some other g-gum that I can't remember). Maybe that's why the coconut milk is hit and miss. Hubby started out on 6 Asacol, then was upped to 9, which didn't seem to make a d...

Thanks, Tex and Leah. I will cut out the Bisquick. It was too good to be true, I guess. There were some other flare-ups where I had made chicken coated in Bisquick and served potatoes and carrots as well, which really threw me for a loop. We've cut out carrots since then because we didn't want to be...

opinions needed on possible cause of flare-up

My husband has been df/ef for 2 years. In January he went gf and had a great two months and has been suffering for the last 2 months. He's been sf for about 2 weeks now. A week ago, we started him basically eating only chicken and rice/potato, with one evening having a waffle made from gf Bisquick. ...

Question for you, Dee...In your ingredients, your flours add up to 3 cups + 1 T. Was this intentional, and we should use 2 c + 2T of it, or should the tapioca flour be 1 T?

No, we haven't. I was all set to buy it, then noticed it contained eggs, which my husband is avoiding. I noticed on Whole Foods' website that they carry Food for Life brand bread. Can you shed any light its quality?

Thanks for the insight, Joan. It helps to hear someone experiencing something similar. My husband has been eating Schar bread, which has some soy, so as of today it's out. Here's hoping.

Thanks, Tex. We'll keep plugging away. A couple years ago, my husband was breaking out in hives. Blood tests showed that he should avoid eggs, casein, beans, and nuts. They showed "low" sensitivies to soy and beef, but not in the "avoid" range. Maybe at the time, his immune syste...
