So true, Tex. I can and do use medications when they help. I think we are truly lucky to live in an age where some effective treatments exist. One wonders how people did without some of our medications in the past. I wouldn't want to try it! But it's great that the side effects of a healthy diet fil...

Thanks for all the good words. It's nice to talk with others on this road, although I wish we could all get off it. Yes, I'm very glad to be eating just whole, natural foods. It's actually a very tasty and healthy diet once you can expand a bit to include a pretty wide variety of foods--but that tak...

Thank you. That's wonderful about "no concessions to MC." That's really where we're going, right? The goal isn't perfection or some old idea of normal, but just a normal life!

Sunflower seeds were awful the last time I tested, but I love pumpkin seeds, flax, sesame, chia and hemp. I grind them in a coffee grinder and make them into delicious pumpkin cookies with raisins and coconut oil. No egg, dairy, soy, or grain at all. Although they turn out differently every time.

Thanks! Yes, I believe the diet does indeed pay off if VERY strictly followed, and guess what? I've been able to add a lot of foods that used to be off limits. I just looked at my previous list of intolerances and realized that some things that used to give me bad reactions are now fine: Soaked legu...

I forgot to mention that I also keep Imodium at the ready. I am trying to lose my self-judgment about using it. I realize that life is short and if a medication truly helps--as Imodium helps me--I would do well to use it (within moderation of course) and stop worrying about it.

Some success and a big thank you

Hi there, It's been a long time since I wrote last, but I thought it might be helpful for people to know that after a LONG LONG LONG time with no seeming improvement at all despite a best effort diet, I've finally calmed down! I'm still on a hair trigger. and I never have any idea whether or how lon...

Finally REAL research shows gluten treats some IBS-D

I found it so refreshing and important that controlled research is being done. Pardon if others already knew about this. I believe Medscape requires a password but is free. Finally they are starting to know that IBS is gluten-related in cases of HLA-DQ2/8: (Of course, IBS-D is probably often microsc...

I chuckled a lot at the toilet bowl watching. I've actually been annoyed at automatic flush toilets for their quick whisking . . . and I've been known to use my iPhone to capture evidence of a clean and neatly formed BM. Can't let such a thing go by without ceremony! :-) Definitely TMI. sorry. :-)

I'm so sorry to hear about how difficult this has been and is still being. I hope you have fully recognized, which I didn't for a while, that the emotional roller coaster is very much part of the illness. Insomnia is also something that really was a problem for me and I'm sure you know it's one of t...

I had a similar visit to an endocrinologist. What a waste of time! But I have found a good one. I had to visit SIX doctors before finding "the one." The doc I have now is a consultant and sounding board for the course I'm planning to pursue. The relationship works for me. I don't like doct...

Gloria, I would really love your mayo recipe. I can't have olives, soy, or egg, so I thought mayo was OUT. I would like to have a mayo-like sauce!

Dear Linda, Hi there! I've been wanting to respond to your post for a while, because I'm one of the lucky few who also has hyperthyroidism. I know it's a really hard road especially at the beginning. I don't know what stage you're at, for example, in terms of the surgery. You mentioned that you migh...

My antihistamine experiment was basically a bust. At first--days 1 and 2--there was a little improvement and I was thinking it might go somewhere, but then I actually seemed to become sensitive to the Claritin. Things got worse and worse until I had nocturnal D. When I stopped the Claritin after 5 d...
