Jane, I also didn't have any reaction to going gluten free, and elimination diets showed my nothing. I did Fine's tests anyway and when it said I had problems with gluten and dairy, I stopped them. I'm not free and clear, but the colitis is the least of my problems now. I am one who responds well to...

I use cholestyramine granules and I do think they helped. I still go straight back to them at the first sign of trouble. I took them immediately before eating 3 times a day. I guess I subscribe to the theory that my bile gets some kind of toxic irritant in it and needs recycling once in a while. Of ...

Hi Trace, After losing 35 pounds to diarrhea, a year later I found myself in the hospital with constipation. I think I preferred the diarrhea. Hmm, no, I think I preferred Norman (a little colitis joke). I was given cholestyramine granules for the colitis, and I think they help. They are pretty beni...

 You know, it isn't THAT hard to change a name in this country! My condolences to Norman.

I guess we could call it reg instead of norman. Wait, scratch that.

Fascinating thoughts, guys. Back on topic, I've started on VSL#3 again since my last relapse in October. I'm better again, but it's impossible to know if the probiotic is the reason, or whether the flare just 'passed'. I guess I can definitely say VSL didn't hurt, and my current remission does seem ...

Maggie, at some point in my life, I knew soy sauce had wheat. Apparently I forgot. I can't believe I've been eating it! Thanks for the reminder.

This topic is on my mind too. Two weeks ago I had my first serious run in with constipation. I've been feeling like my colon wasn't happy, and finally I went 5 days without clearing it fully. I had a virus or something at the same time, and the combination of 'obstruction' and fever landed me in the...

Every tooth I have (except the front ones) has had a mercury filling. A few have been replaced with composites, but I have most of it.

Doesn't this mean that even if a person could tolerate, say, oats without any immediate symptoms, they'd still be at risk long term. In my case, it's actually tapioca flour I'm now hooked on.

No symptoms today doesn't mean it isn't destroying your villi, eh?

The part about the Swedish famines made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I wish I were younger so I could live long enough to see where this is all going. There was a cover story about epigenomes in Discover magazine about a year ago. It had a lot of the same information. I ate gluten every...

Appendix? Who needs probiotics!

The appendix does have a use - re-booting the gut By Sadie Gray Published: 08 October 2007 The Independent For generations medical orthodoxy has maintained that the appendix is useless, warranting attention only for its tendency to become painfully inflamed and requiring swift removal. But now the r...

My naturopath says shes being told to recommend 6000/day. I just smile and nod, and we move on. Next time I'll try to ask who sets that dose. I do 1000 or 2000. I've just found a product called Dr Weil's Vit D Dots, which are really tiny. I'm so tired of swallowing pills. Between the clouds, rain an...

Given that my colitis made itself known at the same time I came down with 'stomach flu' and chronic fatigue, this research made my day.

There are a number of probable triggers for CFS, but enterovirus definitely did me in.

Pat, weight loss has been a big fear for me too. I'm already down 35 pounds and would rather not go further. I am on the dreaded low carb yeast diet right now, plus my naturopath took me off tomatoes, peanuts, onions and chocolate. Remove gluten, casein, soy, yeast and you can imagine what's left. T...
