Hi...thanks for the messages...in reply to Tex, I didn't take antibiotic (or anything else) for the Campylobacter. But I also wonder if it may have been the catalyst for my recovery. My colitis began with a gut infection, very probably Campylobacter. I have minimal understanding about how these thin...

A full recovery

Hi...I have been symptom-free for the best part of a year now. I take no medication and follow no special diet. I eat gluten, dairy, lots of fruit and lots of vegetables...I eat anything I want! My history? Late in 2011 I started a bout of watery diarrhea. When it didn't go away, I visited my doctor...

Hi...since my wife has been diabetic (more than 30 years) I have eaten what she eats...no sugar limited carbs...since I have been gluten free (29 months) she has also been totally gluten-free out of mutual solidarity. It has made no difference whatsoever to her insulin intake. Read these claims with...

Hi Gabes...thanks. The "Can we change our genes?" question is a bit of a minefield! Firstly...I don't think we can change our genes as such...but we can alter the effect that they have on us, and on future generations, by our lifestyle. I am sure you would agree? Check out the BBC radio pr...

Hi Gigi...thanks for your post about genetic testing. It is something that has interested me for some time... Celiac, as an autoimmune disease, is often associated with type 1 diabetes. My wife is type 1 diabetic. When our daughter became diabetic it was thought to be extremely bad luck...a genetic ...

Well...I ate a bread roll every day for 6 days running...with no ill effect whatsoever. 3 weeks have now gone by and still no problems...I am fine, it seemed to make no difference. I appear to conform to the "benign and self-limiting" description of the condition. I regard myself as comple...

Hi...yes, dry mouth! I had a bad time with this for ages (months at least...probably at least a year) and put it down to my gut not absorbing liquid as it is supposed to. I would wake many times in the night to drink water but this would never satisfy my dry mouth for more than a few minutes. I have...

Hi...here is my experience...so far. It seems as though it may agree with that which you have read in the medical journals. My Microscopic Lymphocytic Colitis was diagnosed by colonoscopy/biopsy Dec 2011. I suffered 40 months of symptoms which flared and subsided for no apparent reason. I tried vari...

Hi Tex...thanks for your reply. I don't value "normalcy" above my health! Far from it, but I want to be clear about what is, and what is not, a threat to my health. Do you know anyone who has gone down this route and found the answer that I am seeking? I am guessing that this forum's membe...

Hi Lilia...many thanks. I don't have any problems with other foods though. I can eat any amount of the foods normally considered to be triggers and, for the last 6 months, I have been fine. I really don't want to keep gluten-free if it isn't necessary. If it IS necessary, I will soon find out! If I ...

Oh! That is interesting...I have just posted on this subject. My doc said 18 months...38 months is a long time to wait but if the doctors are right it would be nearer the mark...in my case at least...and if my forthcoming experiment proves successful

Thinking about going back on the gluten...?

I hate being gluten free! Not so much the diet...I don't care whether I eat gluten or not...it is having to explain it to others...taking my own food when I go to visit friends and eating next to nothing when I eat out at restaurants. Because I am not celiac I feel I have no valid excuse and I am th...

That's not a rant...! that is just how it is. I feel every part of your frustration. You are not alone...whether this helps or not is neither here nor there. I, for one, am glad to read your post and to know that I am not alone. Good luck to you!

Hi...you sound just like I was a couple of months ago! Totally confused about which advice to follow...what to eat...what not to eat. It is a nightmare of conflicting information. Just when you decide that eating potatoes is the answer, someone will tell you that "nightshades are poison..."...

Hi...an unexplained flare is a miserable state to be in...I have just come out of one myself and I have no idea what caused it (2 months) or why I am better now. Does it matter whether you are in a flare or have a bug? I guess there are medications for bugs? But I think I would treat both the same i...
