Well Gabes that's interesting and hopeful for me because I just finished working with my Naturopath to up my Vitamin D to optimal levels. I have also been taking Remag to increase magnesium. Maybe that will help me to bounce back quickly. Thanks so much for the information and the reminder that we h...

Tick bite

I was bitten by a tick and am going to my doctor today. I am quite sure I will be put on an extended period of doxy so that I don't develop Lyme Disease. I am worried about the antibiotic due to potentially causing an MC flare. I have been feeling pretty well and maintain my health with diet (no MC ...

As always Tex thank you for your insight. It makes sense the way you explain it and I can see your logic. I understand then that you believe that MC should be treated first and then the SIBO goes away. That's where the difficulty lies with me. When I was diagnosed with MC (3 years ago) I changed my ...

Thank you for your input Tex. And yes, My primary physician has no problem with my cholesterol numbers. It's all so frustrating, I don't know what to do to make it better.

Bearcat- I didn't reverse the numbers, those are correct.

Bile Salt Malabsorption question

After trying several medications for my MC which did not help much if at all, last summer I tried cholestyramine after reading Polly's post. It seemed to be the first thing (aside from diet, which I was controlling 80% of my symptoms with) that helped me in terms of medication. I have an issue thoug...

Thank you! Very interesting especially since I repeatedly test positive for SIBO (hydrogen and methane positive) despite measures to get rid of it. Maybe the cholestyramine is actually helping soak up some of their toxins. I had stopped taking it since it contains sugar and I thought it would compli...

1) Yes it helps! 2) 1/2 - 1 packet at night or during the day on occasion. (I am not currently taking it regularly because I am trying to sort out another issue) 3) No noticeable side effects for me however it's important to monitor fat soluable vitamins. 4) I started it last Fall and it truly helpe...

Tex, My gastro prescribed cholestyramine for me at my request and it helps me more than anything else I have ever taken (including Uceris, Lialda, Apriso etc). I don't have to take a lot either, just one packet in a day if at all. I told this to my PCP at a recent physical and she said I don't have ...

I know this post is old, but it made me burst into tears (of relief and hope) as I read it. At an appointment at my Naturopath last Tuesday, where I thought I was going in to discuss my treatment protocol for stubborn SIBO I have been battling, she pointed out my high HDL value on recent blood work....

Hi Polly, count me in on your list of people who filled in the missing piece of their puzzle by using cholestyramine. After reading your first post about sequestrants I asked my doc for a prescription and I am very happy with how well I do on it. It has helped me more than any medication I have trie...

I was taking PA for a while Zizzle, and I think it helps a little but I didn't notice a huge improvement like you have. I will say I like it better than other probiotics I have used which seemed to make things slightly worse. I am not taking it right now because I am being treated for SIBO. I took a...
