Re: PPIs like Omeprazole/Prilosec

Many thanks for your response, Tex. In my Mom's case, none of the "typical" mitigation techniques work, and the GERD is already there (and resistant to Mylanta and Tums) so she may have no choice but to employ a PPI. I've been taking PPIs for many years, and I'm very satisfied with how muc...

PPIs like Omeprazole/Prilosec

Hello, Interested in experiences here with PPIs. Has anyone been able to continue or start taking a PPI like Omeprazole/Prilosec and find that there were no ramifications for their Microscopic Colitis? I know it's on a list of meds that can aggravate MC, but what if you have GERD that is resistant t...

Larry, I may have lied to you. When I went to my book to find a medical reference on the diminishing effectiveness of corticosteroids with repeated stopping and restarting of treatments, I didn't find one listed there. That has definitely been the experience of our members who have used it, however...

Larry, Please don't think we're "pushing drugs" here, but there's a very good reason why Brandy and Carol are suggesting that she might want to remain on a low maintenance dose of budesonide. FWIW, we have more than a few members here who find it necessary to remain on a small maintenance...

Hi Larry, how did she titrate off of Budesonide the first time (in 2015) when she was 91? I don’t know that there’s much to say other than she’s done it before while in her 90s and there’s no reason to think she can’t titrate again with success. You could go 3 mg every third day and extend the titr...

Larry, Your Mom is 96 and on budesonide? The budesonide works pretty well for her? Does she have any side effects? If budesonide works and she does not have side effects there is a case to stay on a very low dose until death. Low dose would be the lowest dose that provides effectiveness for her. Do...

Discontinuing Budesonide

Hello. My Mom has had a recurrence of her CC. Back in 2014, she got a pretty good remission that lasted pretty much almost 5 years after being on Budesonide. This time, we nipped it almost as soon as it started happening again, and the Dr. put her right back on. Took less than a week for symptoms to...

Re: hi tex,

so you think anti depression cuase mc? can you send me studies of it? thanx There are no studies. But I can give you at least a little anecdotal evidence. My Mom was on an SNRI for many years and was doing fine with it. Had a bad initial episode of Collogenous Colitis back in 2014 that was resolved...

Hi Larry, Unfortunately we have found that all SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclic antidepressants, etc., can cause MC reactions. And if any of them cause the problem for an individual, then there is a very good chance that all of them may cause the problem. Wellbutrin (buproprion) is sometimes prescribed to t...

Lexapro and SSRIs/SNRIs

Hello, My Mom had a bout of Collogenous Colitis in 2014 and after a few months of treatment with Budesonide ... has essentially been stable since. She had been on Cymbalta for many years prior to 2014 and up until a couple of months ago ... with no aggravation of MC symptoms. A couple of months ago ...

Thanks.

My Mom's VITAMIN D, 25-OH, TOTAL was 59 in December and she has been on supplement 100,000 IU per month for years (for bone issues). That was when she was titered down to 3mg/day of budesonide and approximately 3 weeks before completely discontinuing it.

Thanks again.

If you do a search within the forum for Vit D, you will see hundreds of discussions, and the many studies supporting the need for Vit D3. There are many here that have achieved vast improvement just by supplementation of a good dose of Vit D3. Also, Tex has written and published a book about Vit D3...

Larry, I didn't answer your question. This is anecdotal but if she gets through the 8 week period she should be fairly safe. A lot of the relapses seem to occur in week 2 or 3 after last budesonide pill for those without diet changes. Again....this is anecdotal from being on the board. Brandy Thank...

Larry There is not an exact timing we can provide. How long the medication helps depends on many factors, what foods your mum is eating, how much fibre she is having, what her Vit D3 level is, and if she is supplementing with Vit D3, what other medications she might be having. As to what may happen...

My Mom

Hello Everyone. I posted late last summer about my Mom, 91 y/o, who had been diagnosed with Collogeneous Colitis and we had many questions about the Enterolab (which we still have yet to do, btw). Here's my current question. She was placed on Uceris 9mg last summer and it was working very nicely. Sh...
