I have both Scottish and Irish heritage. Nobody else in my family has anything remotely close to the GI issues I've had for 35 years. I have a couple of friends with Celiac disease, and they are both mainly of Irish descent.

US Gluten Free Registry

I am still not brave enough to eat out, but I thought this link that my husband found might be useful to some other US members or visitors: http://www.glutenfreeregistry.com/index.jsp

I like the fact that they have reviews.

Wow! I am so encouraged by reading about your adventure! International travel has seemed to me like a distant hope or dream... and likely an impossibility for me, ever. At this point, I have just passed 11 weeks with no flares (woo hoo!), and while I am doing things now that would have been unthinka...

Hi Chris- My British immigrant parents live about 2 hours away so they came for Christmas dinner with my DH and me. I prepared a safe feast. My diet is GF, DF, no oats or sesame, no beef, pork, tuna, and eliminating a few other things (including chocolate). My family does not have many restrictions ...

I like potlucks best. If it's held at someone's home or at the office, I eat before going to an event and bring something safe to share. I have had other people thank me for doing this because they too have an issue with gluten or dairy or whatever. You can put the plainest thing in a pretty dish an...

Sheila- So sorry to hear of your RA diagnosis. Back in the 1970s, my grandfather had it, and did find some relief using diet to help control symptoms, though I believe he also took some medication. I think the book about the diet was called "The Arthritic's Cookbook". As I recall, the diet...

On the probiotics, the nutritionist I consulted told me that the "churn" they can cause indicates that there is an imbalance being corrected. She said that in a person without GI issues, this should only last a day or two, but for someone with other GI issues, it could take more like a wee...

Agreed. The good news is that mindfulness meditation is a growing trend in many workplaces and elsewhere. It saves businesses money in various ways. If the workers are in the business of caring for others (e.g. nurses), it can have a ripple effect to better outcomes for those in their care.

It has been helpful for me. It confirmed foods that I knew were problems, I learned about sensitivities of which I was unaware, and I feel better now that I have eliminated all items to which I react. I feel that the tests were expensive, but worth every penny.

Thank you, Deb, for sharing this. Wonderful - not surprising, but good evidence to share with skeptics and those who think meditation is a bit too "fluffy" or "woo-woo" to really be taken seriously.

Happy Thanksgiving All! Theresa, I also have a DH like that - very thankful for him. I made my dressing from GF cornbread, onion, mushroom, sage, chicken broth and some GF turkey sausage. I also made candied yams, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green beans almondine, and for dessert, a pear/ginge...

Hi Sarah- Welcome... glad you found us, but sorry for the reason. Loved your post, and loved the empathy video. This sucks, and the timing does too. I am a relative newbie myself and I don't have the perspective or knowledge of many others on the forum. However, I can totally say "Amen, sister&...

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Monique!

It will help me to remember that this holiday is about gratitude, not about food... we must feast on what nourishes us.

This forum is one of many things for which I'm grateful this year.

Thank you, Theresa! That is great progress, and potentially a place to refer skeptical medical professionals... although I sincerely hope that the disease actually can be controlled successfully by diet alone. I am not taking any medication for MC at the moment, and it has now been 3+ weeks since my...
