It seems to be helping although it's not an overnight cure. For me, the D, is down from 15-17 x day to 5 - 7. However, I'm also taking 1.25 LDN and Florastor Probiotic. So, in combination, things are improving.

When I asked my doc about trying an antihistamine for possible Mast Cell issues, she said, don't hesitate to give it a try because these meds are pretty safe. She said to try Zyrtec or Allegra (or the generic form). I was also scared of putting anything in my body but I did give this a try. I didn't...

My experience with the Gastro docs at Johns Hopkins Bayview Gastroenterology department has been amazing. They are all over the diet and alternatives approach. I am seeing Dr. Alyssa Parian. She is sharp and in tune with traditional and non-traditional treatments. Her colleague, Dr. Gerard Mullin wr...

Innovative Informed Gastro Doc - They Do Exist!

I had the consult with Dr. Alyssa Parian at Johns Hopkins Bayview Gastroenterology Dept. yesterday. I found her informed, innovative, and open. She wants me to have the test for Small Intestinal Bowel Overgrowth to rule it out. If positive it will be treated with Xifaxan a non-absorbable antibiotic....

Consult at Johns Hopkins w/ IBD Specialist

Since I have had D for over 20 years and all my dietary changes have not resulted in any real remission, my PCP arranged for a consult with an expert in IBD/Microscopic Colitis. My gastro doc is on board since he's a one trick budesonide pony. I'm currently experimenting with Boswellia serrata extra...

Turns out my body is not absorbing too much (hemochromatosis). Yay! Based on the genetic test, I have two abnormal copies of the gene, but because I don't have iron overload (based on the ferritin test), I am unlikely to develop any problems. The abnormal gene mutation (H63D) I have 2 copies of conf...

Also, in case you may have some insight on this: My Creatine Kinase (CK) also know as CPK runs high. This latest test came out at 417 HH with a Reference Range of 26-174 (IU/L). My doctor thinks this just runs high for me and I'm not on any statins so we are just ignoring it for now. Does that make ...

Gabes Great (Lifesaving) Advice!

Great advice Gabes! You are literally a life saver! My doctor did all the tests and everything came out ok, except Iron - turns out my body is absorbing too much (hemochromatosis)! So, that's being addressed. If not for your advise we would not have checked this and not caught it before damage ensue...

Thanks for the info. An alternative to the Cipro for this infection is Trimethoprim/Sulfa. Should I consider asking my doctor to put me on that instead? I've only had one dose of the Cipro.

Infection Revealed in Genova Diagnostics Testing - Advice?

Today I got the results from the Genova Diagnostics Stool Profile. The most alarming thing I learned is that I have a bacterial infection, Yersinia enterocolitcia. The recommendation is that I treat with Ciprofloxacin which I started today. This is very unnerving because I wonder if this has been a ...
