Tapering off Steroids

My mum has been given a 7 day 40mg daily dose of prednisolone . What would the correct tape off regime be. Stopping from full dose doesn’t seem a good idea which is what my mums GP has prescribed, I wanted to talk to her about slowly reducing but wanted to know what is right before arguing my point ...

Calprotectin in Microscopic colitis

My mother has been diagnosed with collagenous colitis some 15 plus years ago. She has had a recent bout of severe diarrhea, her calprotectin is 965 which I didn’t think was possible with microscopic colitis . She is also bloated , very windy and a loss of appetite and weight loss . She awaits a hosp...

Tex I appreciate your input (as always). Thankyou for the explanation. It's been years since my mum has had a flare so just wanted to know how stomach bloat tied in. Hope you are keeping well yourself.
I see your still doing the good work in this group. Thankyou

Stomach bloating and colagenous Colitis

Hello all its been quite a long time , I hope I find you all well. I'm back to ask a question for my mum whose had colagenous Colitis for 20 odd years. In the last month or so her diarrhoea has got worse and she is complaining about stomach bloating (which Zantac seems to help with). I was wondering...

I'm more lost than ever

Hello all I hope I find you well. I'm at a loss, I was told I had Crohns and was given steroids over a year ago now, I'm still on a maintenance dose now. A repeat gastroscopy and capsule endoscopy show no inflammation at all, however as far as the diarrhoea goes it's business as usual on a daily bas...

Mast Cell Activation and Mastocytosis , A fad or Science

Hello all hope I find you as well as can be expected . I have tested with elavated levels of Tryptase, which kind off may reinforce a finding from my colonoscopy. The doctor is repeating the test as he considers it spurious. As a reminder I have have Crohns like inflammation in small bowel and also ...

Gabes I have always been happy to try new vitamins and minerals, do you think that without testing they would be safe to take for the kidney. I've got so many problems , including pancreas but because they are a new experience to me I'm naively I'm bliss with them, however my father had complete ren...

Hi Gabes I have a question. You say that a mast cell issue had caused you kidney problems, do you think firstly that it can also cause a pancreatic issue. Also once you sorted your mast cell problem did your kidney function return to normal? Many thanks jim

It's quite strange you should mention magnesium . I'd noticed over a period of a month that my urine became dark or fluorescent at a certain time of the day, it was suggested to me that it may have been a vitamin or mineral I was taking, so I stopped the lot. On top of the D3, Chelated Magnesium and...

Hello all I hope I find you all well, while awaiting the results of my latest endoscopy which I've been told they will be looking at Mast cell activation syndrome and several other things , I noticed that I was urinating less and had some more pains around my abdomen. I therefore went to hospital to...
