Bile acid malabsorption

Had to see my gastroenterologist last night to get the results of my SeHCat scan. Turns out I'm positive and I have bile acid malabsorption. He's prescribed medication but it's really up to me to decide when to start it. I'm on long term 3mg Budesonide. Anyone else have this?

Geographic Tongue

I decided to ask you all if any of you has geographic tongue. I've had this condition for several years now, possibly before I started to get the colitis symptoms (I have collagenous colitis). My dentist says that no-one knows what causes it but could it be related to our IBD?

Hi Gabes, I think you're right. Both times it has happened it has been after a cup of coffee following a meal. I definitely must not overeat. At the hospital they blamed my 22 mm gallstone but I am sure it was my hiatal hernia that caused the problem. Man thanks for your advice.

I'm on my second programme of Budesonide in the past year. My instructions that came in the box say that they should be taken between 30 mins to one hour before a meal. Must say that I always remember the one before breakfast but often only remember the others when I've already started eating.

Stomach spasm

Hi Gabes, these are really high in my chest, not the pelvic area which I get as well. I find it hard to breath in very far. When the spasm begins to go it disappears in a few minutes and I feel fine I have a hiatus hernia which they found during a gastroscopy and I wonder if it's anything to do with...

Hi Brandy, I am on budesonide at the moment because I've had a flare. When I had the worse on in January I was on Prednisolone for RA. I'm always on one steroid or the other.

Stomach spasm

Hi all, just wondering if stomach spasms are a side effect of MC. I have had them twice in the last 6 months. The first time lasted for 1hr 20 mins and I honestly thought I was having a heart attack. I asked my partner to take me to A and E. The second time was a couple of weeks ago and it lasted 30...

UTI

I'm very susceptible to UTI's and my consultant recommended taking cranberry tablets and drinking cranberry juice. This was 10 years ago. A few months ago they published the results of a trial in an old people's home in the UK where half of the residents were given cranberry tablets and half weren't...

Scary stuff. We are very fortunate in the UK that we don't have to worry about the cost of our drugs. On the other hand, doctors are obliged to be as economical as possible with their prescriptions. I'll have to wait and see what my two consultants come up with next week. Janden

Hi Tex, I have read the reports on the long term Budesonide trials and, I must say, it makes rather depressing reading. I am in the UK and I wonder if the decision to give me Prednisolone now, rather than Budesonide, is based on cost. On 6mg per day my arthritis was under control as well as my CC. Do...

Brain fog

I do get brain fog sometimes but the time that I had it the most seriously was before I was diagnosed with CC and I was seriously B12 deficient. Janden

Thank you Linda and Tex, glad that you are staying well Linda, as am I. I have felt better since I have been on the steroids (first Budesonide and now prednisolone) than I have for the past 10 years because my arthritis is under control as well as the colitis. I have an appointment with the GI on 14...

Thank you for your advice Gabes and Tex. the last thing I want is to be where I was this time last year - afraid to go out. I am enjoying life again. Giving up Gluten and lactose is a small price to pay. I have also given up the probable causes of my CC, ibuprofen, Omeprazole and simvastatin but as ...

Hi Gabes, I'm not sure that I have ever had my D3 tested. I spend a lot of time in Alicante so get a lot of sun and my GI prescribed Evacal D3 1500mg BD along with the Budesonide. Now I am on prednisolone, my rheumatologist has prescribed two injections per year for my bones. I am taking magnesium n...
