Norway has it right with fool Allergies!
I apologize for not writing more often as this group saved me when I was diagnosed over 6 years ago. Tex is right, as we get better and learn to cope with the new diet we have to face, some of us fall off this site. Again, I apologize. My road has been as bumpy as most of yours but time and patience...

ColoGuard Warning
While I am guilty of not posting for along time, I still come to this awesome site and read posts. I am 73 and had a colonoscopy 10 years ago with only a few benign polyps. My internist said that I could do a colon screening test with ColoGuard instead of having a colonoscopy. Cool! I received the t...

I had my annual physical today with my internist who is a good guy and very data and research driven. My last colonoscopy was 7 years ago. He said that because I only had a benign polyp last time, I would not need a colonoscopy and could do the Cologuard test (the one he likes best). Great! I am 70....

Cholestyramine takes time and yes, Tex is right. You have to experiment with the dose. I take it 3-3 1/2 hours after dinner. I take vitamins in the AM and afternoon and then a couple with dinner so the choestyramine won't interfere. I started with 2 tsp which is a little more than 1/2 a packet. I do...

Several years ago my doc wanted me to take Fosomax and I said no. I had read too much about it from users who complained of joint pain and other side effects. Even the FDA had warnings. Sometimes their pain would not go away after discontinuation of the drug. A good friend called me and complained o...

After my own experimentation with Sandoz cholestyramine packets (not lite) and Colestipol pills, I have found that just 1/2 packet at night, about an hour before going to bed, works best for me. The Colestipol pills were too much for me and gave me stomach discomfort. Everyone is different. Good luc...

Paul, Carol's suggestion about a bile acid sequestrant is worth noting. It has definitely helped me. It binds to bile in the intestines, is not absorbed and can, for many, lessen D. I had my gall bladder out years ago and thus bile became an issue. HOWEVER, there are many folks who benefit from chol...

Karen, I have puzzled over this too. Research taught me that food takes 6-8 hours to go through the stomach and small intestines. Then, an an average of 40 hours, give or take, for the food to go through the colon and on to be defecated. https://www.mayoclinic.org/digestive-system/expert-answers/faq...

Bla, In my opinion, you need a different doctor. While your experience is not uncommon as regards doctors who don't believe in food intolerances, her attitude would make me find another physician. MC is hard enough without having to bear the brunt of an egotistical doctor who refuses to listen. When...

Yes, cholestyramine is a bile binding medication, a bile acid sequestrant. My GI doc wrote the script but your primary doctor can certainly do the same, if willing. If you can talk to one of your docs and have them write the script, it might be worth a shot before going to the Mayo Clinic. I think t...

I am very interested in finding out the results of this trial as recently, Sandoz brand cholestyramine has made a huge difference in my life. I was taking Colestipol pills initially and they didn't work well for me; lots of gas, some gastric pain, not lots of D relief. One pill was probably too much...
