Hi Cristi. I am SO happy you went to see Dr. Pardi. If I had not gone into remission (almost 2 years now), I definitely would have elected to go to Mayo to see him. What he told you makes a lot of sense to me. I agree with the others that you should follow through with biopsies of the pancreas - dea...

Hi Joanna and Mike,

Thanks for asking about my theories. I don't have time tonight as I'm going upstate for the weekend. But I'll get back to you next week. Don't expect too much, though - I don't have a magic bullet for our illness, just several thoughts and a few theories.

Love,
Carole

Hi Cristi. I have LC but no known food intolerances. I had constant D for 6 months and was just about at the end of my rope when I went into spontaneous remission. Since then (over 20 months ago) I've been eating just about whatever I want and the only foods I avoid, or am careful about, are those t...

Naturally eveyone should avoid foods to which they are intolerant. But there are a lot of different foods to choose from that are good sources of soluble fiber. The point of the link is this: SOLUBLE fiber MAY help to control diarrhea.

Hi Bob and welcome. I was diagnosed with LC in 2004 and am one of the lucky ones who, after 6 terrible months of explosive and unrelenting diarrhea, went into spontaneous remission where I've been for 20 months. No meds worked for me although I never did try Entocort which a leading GI at Columbia r...

Barb you are TOO funny! I'd love to be a fly on the wall when you shove the "sick" note under her nose. Let us know how it all plays out, ok?

Hey there Barb. Maybe all hairdressers in Rockland are a bit odd. I go to Julia at Palisades Barber (in the Palisades Mall behind Wendy's at the Food Court). The receptionist barely speaks English so she can't insult you! David goes there, too. He walks in the door and says, "Ok - abuse me.&quo...

Hi Cristi. Sometimes I think the inflammation "just happens" and is part of the disease that has to heal gradually. I've been in remission for 20 months yet still can observe certain subtle changes, regardless of what I eat. I guess what I'm saying, in the absence of any medical proof, is ...

No Barb - nope we're not at the lake in this heat! As it happened, we had the best weather of the summer in June when Peggy was here. And even then it wasn't nearly as nice as usual. Normally June and July are best months. This whole year, though, hasn't been very good out there. Here's hoping for a...

Hi Mike. I've always eaten lots of protein, veggies and not a lot of catbs - so I guess I prefer a moderate fat diet. A recent article in "Digestive Health Matters" suggests that fats can actually help with diarrhea since they slow the digestive process. They caution, however, about any ri...

Thanks for sharing, Barb. It must have been just awful driing across country and wondering if you'd make it to the next stop. And I know what you mean about being so weak - I was, too, as well as unable to eat anything other than chocolate milk and continually losing more weight. It was pretty scary...

Luce, Are there any antibiotics that are tolerated well? I'm on the Amoxicillin for soft-tissue reasons - it's supposed to be one of the best for that. And so far so good - no diarrhea, no stomach ache. Oh - you won't believe this. The pharmacy made a mistake on the instructions. The capsules are 50...
