My original question about the current dilemma I have to struggle with -- entocort vs. purinethol-- has certainly generated a lot of reaction and I am really grateful for all the debating and resulting information! There is one point though that keeps bothering me. While my GI is trying to convince ...

Celie, I really appreciate your input and, if it is possible, it would be great to read your progress from time to time. I am not convinced yet that I should change something that works great for me but I always keep my eyes open!

It is really sad that a specialist is actually forced to try to convince a patient to change a course of treatment that is definitely working because of monetary reasons while pretending that it is a better medical course of action. I find this really dishonnest and disturbing... Oh well. I am stick...

Thank you Tex, Dee, Gabes and Joe. I am now pretty convinced that the motivation for changing me from Entocort to whatever has to do with monetary reasons rather than medical decisions. I am a member of a California HMO and I suspect that someone is looking over the shoulder of some of the practicia...

Entocort vs. Purinethol, help!

Hi everyone, I am engaged in an e-mail "fight" with my gastroenterologist about my use of Entocort. I was diagnosed last April with microscopic colitis (collagenous colitis). I have been taking, since July 27, 2010, Entocort 9mg per day and have tapered down now to 6mg and 3mg on alternate...

Kefir

Thank you, Tex, for the information. I have now been on Entocort 9mg for almost a month and feel pretty good. Actually I am feeling quite normal and healthy although continuing with the no-gluten diet. Casein is still a mystery because icecream is definitely not good for me but a little milk in my c...

Kefir

Hi everyone! Someone mentioned kefir not too long ago and I would like to start drinking it because I think it does me a world of good. I am just not able to remember who suggested it and how to drink it. I seem to remember that the suggestion was to add honey to it... but I do not remember the othe...

Transitioning to Entocort

Joe, Gloria and Tex, Thank you! I am grateful for the valuable information and feel confident about taking the course of action you are describing. I am very gradually decreasing the Prednisone and can already feel a pulling sensation in my abdomen although the old "engine" seems to contin...

Entocort dosage

Wayne, I am still tapering off Prednisone and the dosage of Entocort EC (3mg) recommended by the GI doctor will be 1 to 3 pills per day. I am basically left to figuring out how much I will need. Wayne, what it your experience? If the dreaded D comes back, is it better to attack with a larger dose li...

Today was the sitdown visit with the GI doc to come up with a solution to continue controlling my MC symptoms. He feels that Pepto bismol and Immodium are not really doing much to help MC symptoms and it has been my experience as well. I am now tapering off Prednisone and he has agreed to put me on ...

Hello Gowest,

It looks like your UCLA doc is no more encouraging about diet control than my LA Kaiser Permanente one!

Actually mine wants to put me on cancer drug (purinethol)! I am meeting with him on Tuesday for a sitdown chat, armed with some basic education thanks to this forum.

Great Pat. Thank you for the helpful suggestion. At my upcoming meeting with the GI, I will definitely ask more about the function and results of the breathing tests.
Thank you much!

Newly diagnosed

Thank you Tex and Joe! I feel I am now armed with some good knowledge and feel that I can now logically discuss a plan of action with the GI (hopefully Entecort after Prednisone). Before reading your forum, I did not even know that this disease was really a chronic situation! I can understand that t...

Newly diagnosed

Joan, Tex, Ant, Mary Beth and Joe... thank you so very much! This is hugely helpful! I have just requested an ASAP meeting with the doctor in question to sit down and discuss his course of action. It is now clear to me that a more organized and gentle approach is badly needed. When I first met with ...
