Hello Jim, I to have the occasional smell of ammonia sometimes and also at times a very strong smell of sulphur. I believe I have finally figured out why and experimenting on myself to confirm my suspicions. I had a 23&Me test done and have confirmed I have a problem with methylation. My body is...

Once I started actively seeking a diagnosis it took a little over a year to find a surgeon to agree to surgery. I had at first been rejected by the University of Michigan for surgery - they didn't think I had it. My surgeon after the surgery made a comment that he is not convinced that PHPT isn't au...

Hi Patricia, Hopefully this image will show up. These are the labs that were used for diagnosis. As you can see (hopefully) some of my labs were over some were not. What you do see is there is not a tight control of my calcium. It bounced all over the place. I was placed on Vitamin D and had a horri...

Hi Patricia, I just had surgery this past April for primary hyperparathyroidism. It was extremely difficult to diagnose and I ended up firing more than one Endo in my quest for a diagnosis. The surgery was successful and they pulled an adenoma out of my thymus and in addition did a thymectomy. Below...

I actually found the best time for me is at 2:00 am. Noticed a huge difference especially with T3. I was on 5mcg 2x/day but kept having heart palps. Came across an article regarding nighttime dosing and tried it. I've been able to reduce my T3 to only 5mcg 1x/day and am good there.

Actually, it appears Levothyroxine is better absorbed if taken at nighttime.

The test was not helpful at all for me. It showed no reactivity to dairy or soy and gluten was within range. That said, I do not know if I have an IGA insufficiency or not but I definitly have reactions to all three.

Dr. Ann,
Naltrexone is not a narcotic. It is an opiate antagonist that blocks the opiate receptors.

If you have high normal range of calcium along with low vitwmin d, you should have your parathyroid levels checked. Normal ranges for calcium can run as high as 10.1-10.3 however this is an all ages range. No adult should have calcium in their 10's. Hoping this was a one time event for you Tex. It's...

Hi Deb. Has your Endo checked for reverse T3? It's possible you could be pooling and T3 is not entering your cells. Alternatively, I am on 5mcg generic Cytomel. When I first started taking it, I really didn't notice a difference so I went ahead and bumped myself up to 10 and I did start to feel bett...

I have a great surgeon thank god! It took a while to find one but he has done somewhere between 30,000 to 40,000 thyroid/parathyroidectomies. He removed one of my parathyroids last June along with a juicy lymph node that tested positive for squamous cells. The last 2 months have been a nightmare for...

Hi Deb. A couple of thoughts. I also take 5mcg generic Cytomel. Initially, I took it in the morning and although it made a positive impact, I was still exhibiting symptoms. I went ahead and increased my dose by another 5mcg and ended up getting heart palpitations in the evening. I then came across a...

Thank you again to everyone for the kind words. Recovery is going as expected. Feeling like I've been hit by a Mack truck but I expected that. Tex, thank you for the reference to thymus and t-cells. I'm starting to believe my problem is genetic and I may have passed it down to my kids. My son was bo...
