1:1 calcium to magnesium is the current recommendation by authorities who actually keep up with this sort of research. I eat eggs and bacon for breakfast, and meat (usually pork) and potatoes for dinner, and for snacks, I use almond or cashew milk on Corn Chex or Rice chex, or cashew butter or almo...

Thank-you so much. Once again, you have given me incredibly valuable information.I do supplement with magnesium gluconate. However, I probably wasn't taking enough. The epsom salts idea is great. I will do it today. How much epsom salts should I add to a full bathtub of water or to a foot bath? Is th...

Can frequent water enemas cause severe leg muscle cramps
I am on a short wait list for a subtotal colectomy with Ileosigmoid resection for poor transit and other factors. I have collagenous colitis and am 64. I had a complete hysterectomy 4 years ago for uterine cancer with no further treatment needed. Long story short, my surgeon had advised me to do dai...

Tapering off budesonide after rectal prolapse surgery
Thank-you so much. I really appreciate your response. I find you more helpful than my colorectal surgeon and gastroenterologist combined.
Your recommendations on meds are logical. Thanks again

Tapering off Budesonide after rectal prolapse surgery
I am 63 and have collagenous colitis, mastocytic enterocolitis, and numerous food allergies and intolerances. In May/2015 I had a perianal rectal prolapse surgery. My rectum was removed and part of my colon was used to create a new rectum. Since then I was advised to do a 1.5 litre water enema daily...

Fecal Incontinence after Perianal Rectal Prolapse surgery
I had Altemeier Perianal rectal prolapse surgery 7 weeks ago. ~ 10 cm of my rectum was removed. I am 62 years old. Healing is fine. However, I am left with fecal incontinence. If I take lomotil, I don't have diarrhea but still have incontinence. My surgeon is MIA. I have collagenous colitis and mast...

Can aerius trigger colitis flare?
Thank-you Dr.Ann. I have always taken a multivitamin. I take the Cosco one for seniors. I am not familiar with a digestive enzyme that digests gluten. I'll have to look it up. Thank-you for the recipe for a gluten-free flour mixture. I will certainly try it. Obtaining the gelatin might be a problem....

Can aerius trigger colitis flare?
Thank-you, AnnW. You offered some excellent suggestions. I have taken pancreatic enzymes in the past without success. I definitely will ask my physician about testing for D3 levels. I have not been tested for over 12 years. At that time I was found to be deficient and was put on the 10,000 i.u. / we...

Can Aerius trigger colitis flare?
Thank-you very much for your prompt response. I am feeling better since I stopped the Aerius. My understanding is that a dosage of 5 mg Aerius, or desloratadine, is equivalent to 10 mg Claritin,or loratadine. Usually the side effects with loratadine are worse than with desloratadine. For years I too...

Can Aerius trigger colitis flare
I have collagenous colitis and mastocytic enterocolitis. I just started with an allergist who has an excellent reputation in Canada. He put me on a regimen of aerius about 11 days ago: 5 m/dayfor 3 days, then progress to 10 mg/day for 7 days if the 5 mg don't help with the diarrhea, abdominal pain, ...
