Re: My anniversary update.
Hi Tex, We fared okay. In Kansas we are used to extremes (although not 10 days of 0 and below temps) and we have snow removal equipment and contingency plans for when power systems get strained (which can happen in summer or winter). There were planned ‘rolling blackouts’ across the metro, lasting f...

Re: My anniversary update.
Thank you, Tex! ❤️ Looking back, I wonder if my pancreatic enzyme deficiency was already happening when I developed LC. There wasn’t a cause-and-effect but I think it was an added complication and that made it hard to separate the two. I had my daughter complete a DNA test to see if she had two copi...

Re: My anniversary update.
Thanks Jen, it took me awhile. Many people get there sooner I think, but if it feels like ‘slow going’ that doesn’t mean you won’t get there. My measuring stick these days was when I started working out with a 30 minute walk followed by about 15-20 minutes of weight lifting and I didn’t have to nap ...

My anniversary update.
Hi all, Usually at the anniversary of my diagnosis of LC , I get on here and reflect back. I have met a new milestone, since I am almost 10 years post diagnosis- I am happy to report that I feel as good today as I did prior to developing LC. The fine-tuning takes time and persistence and thinking ‘o...

Re: Hello! New to the group.
Hi all- just a word of caution about oatmeal. If you are going to eat oatmeal be 100% sure it is certified gluten free, and even then some people who are sensitive to gluten will still react to oats. They are easily cross-contaminated during processing. If you are in an active flare, I’d suggest avo...

Re: weight gain
Hi Jen, Simply Ruffles and Lays Naturals are in every mainstream grocery store (except Sprouts) plus Target and Walmart. They’ll be in the aisle with all the other chips; some stores have them in the ‘health market’ area because they are just organic potatoes and oil. Even Lays classic potato chips ...

Re: weight gain
Hi Jen, it sounds like you can tolerate potatoes. I could too and found Ruffles Naturals/ Lays Naturals to be helpful. I also added extra butter (Earth Balance Soy-free) or olive oil to my foods to add more calories in my diet. And like the others have said- you may need to eat 4-6 meals per day. I ...

Re: WHERE Is The SOY Hiding?
Hi Treese, I am also sensitive to soy. If I get a lot of it I get intense nausea. if I get a little I ache all over the next day. I went through a stretch of about 3 months getting more and more aches and pains everyday. I thought I was getting fibromyalgia, seriously. I decided to throw it out to t...

Hi Treese- Budesonide will help with the immediate symptoms by reducing inflammation in the gut, but the flare will return once you stop Budesonide if you are eating foods you are intolerant to. It is the diet that heals, not the medications. Tex has conducted surveys with the participants on this b...

Hi Treese- I’m glad you felt this was helpful. A dietician will probably not view microscopic colitis as an autoimmune disease and will not approach it from a standpoint of reducing the immune system response that caused our gut inflammation. And that makes all the difference in my opinion. Best wis...

Hi again, I’ll start with the easy question- well cooked or overcooked just means soft so that it’s easier to digest. Raw vegetables can be irritating to an already inflamed gut, as can too much fiber. Your gut needs as few irritants as possible. As far as Enterolab tests- something has you in a fla...

Hi Treese, Yes, I think you can eat those foods even now, assuming you don’t react to them. When in a huge flare I avoided gluten, soy and dairy, then when I stopped taking Budesonide I found that I was also reacting to eggs. I found 5-6 safe foods and that’s all I ate for 6 months, then added one f...

Hi Treese, I’m sorry to hear you are in such a big flare that you’ve had to take Lialda and Budesonide both. I agree with Tex and Brandy that you need to go with the foods that people react the least to- turkey, lamb, very soft cooked vegetables (like carrots, squashes, green beans) and sweet potato...

Hi Jeannie, I was on Budesonide for 4 1/2 months, then had my Enterolab tests done. Before I did that I called Enterolab and talked to a nurse there about this same concern. I hope they still offer that service but IDK. I want to say I had to be off Budesonide for 8 weeks, but honestly that was 9 ye...
