Wedding Invitation

Has anyone attended a wedding post-diagnosis? My God-daughter will be getting married next May (yea, I know, a long time away), and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to eat that day. If anyone has pulled this off, please let me know what you did? Thanks!

Yep. Sure did. My daughter's wedding a year ago and I put on the party. I ate ahead of time. It was difficult but you can do it. Pat

My daughter is getting married in October, so I'll be in the same predicament.

I am going to may grand daughter's wedding next Saturday and she has a few guests that are gluten free. Needless to say there was a GF meal choice for them. That's what I am having too. I'm sure if you mention it to them they can make sure you have a meal that you can eat.

My son got married a year ago when I was in the throws of undiagnosed LC. I was in and out of the hospital. I just did not eat.

Now, I would simply make sure the caterer prepared a gluten free meal for me or if I were unsure about the caterer, I would prepare a meal ahead and have the caterer serve it to me.

Since you are the mother of the bride, control of the food should not be a problem. But, remember to make sure your daughter has what she needs to make her day special and you will have a good day.

Enjoy the party! I have to keep telling myself "its only food" ...

I'll be attending my niece's wedding, which is 4 hours away, in July. I'm planning on bringing my own meal and heating it at the reception. I haven't heard from my SIL whether I'll be able to reheat it in the kitchen. If not, I'm bringing our portable microwave and I'll use it. I'll let you know how it works out.

Yes, I attended my Nephew's wedding last year.

They were aware of my intolerance (and I think they knew other guests had intolerances as well - I think in general the younger generation is more tuned into this than my generation) so with the invite they sent out a form for any special meals. I replied and it was great. I got a special meal at the reception (cold beef, rice and steamed veg if I recall). Of course, I could not eat the wedding cake, but I did toast the Bride and Groom with a glass of Champs.

Also at the pre-wedding "ushers' pub-lunch for the Groom and his family" I called the pub in advance and ordered smoked salmon, shrimps with lemon juice and avocado (this was available, if I deconstructed the ingredients from their set menu). Everyone else had sandwiches and was jealous of my much better meal!

I agree that the other (safer) option is to bring your own.
