Imodium AD Recalled
Oh RATZ! I just checked several drug stores and no Imodium. I was told that it has been recalled and probably will not be back on the shelves until fall. I checked out a few generics and they all contained lactose or other assorted yukkies.
Does anyone know about this? Forgive me if I missed a discussion on this - life has been quite stressful/hectic lately (the reason I was stocking up on Imodium in the first place). If true, this is a big blow for us. In my experience, Lomotil does not work as well (studies show this too).
Hugs,
Polly

Polly,
Here's the old thread. Big contamination recall. The FDA is now running the plants that make it.

Polly,
I still have an unopened box of 24, (plus about 4 individually sealed caplets left over from another box), that I bought about 14 months ago, following my surgery. As you probably recall, I had to stop taking them, because they made me dizzy.
The expiration date on them is 07/12, and the lot number is AMA006.
If you want them, just PM me your mailing address, and they'll be on their way, tomorrow.
Also, you might be interested in this thread:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Zizzle,
Thanks for bringing me into the loop. Interesting thread.
Tex, thanks for the link and especially for your kind offer. I am going to check a few more local places (including Walmart as per the above suggestion) today. If no luck, I just might take you up on that. As I've said many times, you are the epitome of the "gentleman/scholar".

Hi Polly,
I was able to purchase Imodium online from www.discountofficeitems.com, mentioned in Tex's link above. It arrived quickly and was pretty cheap. I ordered more than I need, so if you can't get it or order it, let me know.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Gloria,
I ran the roads again yesterday to see if I could find Imodium nearby, but no luck. Thanks for the office supply info. I have ordered some today. I don't think I got as good a deal as you did - it was 36 caplets for $18.27. But I don't mind - it will be a relief to have some on hand. Some things are worth their weight in gold - right?
Tex,
Thanks for being my knight in shining armor and mailing me your supply. They will arrive more quickly than the Imodium I ordered, and I will have them as my security blanket. You are a dear.
As you know, I am stocking up before my brother arrives, because if the past is any indication, I will unconsciously direct all of my stress to my gut. The last time this happened was when my golden retriever Rusty died last Aug. At that time, I did find it helpful to take Imodium on a regular basis for a while. My theory is that it helps to calm/retrain the gut in times of stress. I think stress makes the gut speed up and/or not work rhythmically which leads to gas, bloating, and D, and that this reaction is totally independent of food sensitivity issues. I guess the stress/gut symptoms would be sort of like IBS symptoms.
JoAnn, thanks for the tip.

Polly,
You are so right. We are moving next week and there is so much to do. I'm helpless in trying to control the D. I'm using Pepto now, and haven't had an accident yet, but I had to stop at a grocery store on my way to work yesterday to use the bathroom! My commute is only 20 minutes but I knew I wouldn't make it. I barely made it to the back of the store!

Hi Zizzle,
Just wanted to empathize - a move is the worst kind of stress (I think it actually ranks 100 on the stress scale, right up there with death and divorce).
And I have been there, done that with the "bathroom boogie" - stopping suddenly to use a public restroom, the fear of not making it in time, etc. Remember, I am the one who had to pull over and squat next to my car at the entrance to my neighborhood in broad daylight. Oh my, there is absolutely no way a non-Mcer could understand the fear, inconvenience, and humiliation involved with this rotten disease.
Hang in there. I will be thinking of you.

Polly
