Joe,
Having used Questran in the past, I would consider using it now. As you said, you have to watch your timing with your meds. Having less colon I would think it would help with your transit time. Just my opinion. Glad the surgery is behind you at least.

Sent from my iPad. You still using yours. I turned auto spelling correct off last night as i thought it was to intrusive but i am thinking upon using it this morning thati need to turn it back on.

Hi Rich it's good to hear from you. I am doing ok today and the D is slowing down. I believe the issue was an allergic reaction to one of the 3 antibiotics that I have been taking.
Starting Friday midday I had begun itching and had hives on my torso both front and back. The doctor had me stop all 3 antibiotics as that could be a sign of more serious reactions to come. This was a bit early at day 7 of 10 so I will have to watch for any signs of infection.
He had wanted me to take prednisone, but I really did not want to. I took the prescription and filled it to have it in hand, but decided to try just benedryl and time to see what happened. It was a long sleepless itchy night, but the good news is the hives are fading and the D is also fading.
I was able to grab a nap this morning and I am felling pretty darned good, no pain or other symptoms.
I had a piece of my small intestine removed not the colon. My Crohns is active in the small intestine.
Rich I still use the autocorrect feature on the iPad but it does occasionally come up with some good ones LOL. Overall though it helps more than it hurts so to speak.
How are you doing?

Joe, great news that you're turning this around. I know several people who reacted to a big antibiotic cocktail - I wonder whether it's a particular suspect, or the combo itself jacks up the likelihood of a reaction?
Rich, hope your urologist is helpful and you put this behind you quickly.
All my best,
Sara

Morning Joe,
So sorry to hear about the flare. When I was going through the antibiotics for the racoon attack and the rabies meds, etc. I took FloraQ and I feel it really held the D to a minimum. Also used it when I had the pneumonia and all of those antibiotics.
Worth a try and hope things are better.
Love, Maggie

flagyl and probiotics
I hope your doctor can get you stabilized and at least slow down the D. I'm so sorry for what you are going through.
When I had C. diff just after Christmas my GI doc prescribed Flagyl and Florastor. I was on the Flagyl until the end of March when the C. diff was finally conquered. I'm still taking florastor and Parazyme. I also doubled up on the florastor and parazyme when I was on a Z-pak a few weeks ago. A component (FOS) of parazyme apparently provides sustanance for the bacteria that live in our colon. I was in good shape for a while but the D is back big time even though I've started a GF diet. My GI doc seems to think the florastor is very good for those of us with MC. Who knows? I take it because it can't hurt, can it?

Thanks for all thie replies. Overall I am finally starting to settle down. I am sticking to very mushy simple foods and have been using questran a couple of times. I think today is the first day I have felt like my old self in a few weeks. Ever since the oral surgery I have not felt like myself... energy, concentration etc.. I think a big part of how hard this hit me was that I have gone through 2 significant surgeries within just a couple weeks of each other, that certainly can take it out of you.
I did find out more why this issue cropped up while I was on the Imuran. The doctor pointed out that these early fistulas were already formed when the Crohns was first diagnosed and before I started the meds. The fistulas can act like diverticula and trap bacteria, become infected and burst which is what happened in this case. The removal of that segment of the small intestine has removed the 3 partially formed fistulas that will remove this risk as long as I am on the meds or find another way to stop the disease process.
As an update on the path to Oz, I did have my meetings with the officials here and there will be a 6 week delay until a final decision is rendered. I am still quite confident as this delay is most likely them sorting out any longer term reporting issues. As such I will be delaying my trip for house hunting in Brisbane until the later part of august.
I will have to say that for the moment this is probably a good idea as I don't think I would have tolerated a big trip like that next week.
Thanks again for all your support and kind notes
