I use LouAna brand Pure Coconut Oil. 31.5 fl oz costs around $6, maybe $7, at my local Kroger.

I have been reading a lot about coconut oil as well. Supposedly it is naturally antibacterial, antifungal. The type of fat while saturated, is broken down differently and not stored. Can't say if I'm 100% sold but I do want to try it. To the poster who eats the flaked coconut ( sorry I missed your name:) do you know if the benefits of that are comparable to the oil? I cannot see myself swallowing a tablespoon of it, as many people advocate. Eating flaked sounds so much more appealing.

Lish,

I'm the one who eats flaked coconut. I had success with that reducing my D before I went on the GF diet, and before I began using coconut oil. I don't know if the benefits are comparable to the oil, but the flaked coconut helped me. I sure wouldn't want to swallow a straight spoonful of coconut oil, but it tastes fine used to cook eggs, veggies, etc. I'd recommend the less virgin stuff, so it doesn't taste so much like coconut.

Sheila,
I react to coconut and chocolate as well. My ENT allergist also advised against palm oil because it can also cause symptoms in coconut sensitive people.
Concerning chocolate, I found that I can tolerate cocoa butter which is extracted from the cocoa bean.
Have you tried carob as a substitute? It has the dark rich color, but a different taste.
Good wishes in discovering what works for you.

MRT stands for Mediator Release Testing. Here's an entire forum about it:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
