probiotics and wine

Post by trialanderror »

I am glad I found this site. Probiotic foods seem to work pretty well for me. In order of effectiveness:

raw sauerkraut
kefir
probiotic pills -- not there are a lot of different brands and a lot of different strengths (in terms of billion cfus)
yogurt

While no doctor will recommend alcohol, it actually seems to help.

I recently started taking raw apple cider vinegar -- will let you know if it works.

Interesting the info on a gluten free diet. I may try that but it seems impossible as I travel for work a lot.

Hi,

Welcome to the board. While alcohol certainly helps one to relax, (and relieve stress, which can be a big issue with this disease), unfortunately, it is also the number one cause of the leaky gut syndrome, (LGS), and LGS is very commonly associated with MC. LGS is the cause of many of the "satellite" symptoms frequently experienced by people with MC, (including, but not limited to, joint and muscle aches and pains, stiffness, headaches, migraines, various neurological issues, etc.). Moderation is the key - a little may be good, but a lot can be really bad, (for MC symptoms).

We have several members whose work requires them to travel extensively almost daily. Adhering strictly to the diet requires discipline, but it's not an impossible task, and it certainly beats being sick all the time.

Again, welcome to the board, and I hope that you can find the information here that you need to work out a treatment plan that will work well for you.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
