Won the fishing derby again!
Well it's official, I am no longer allowed to go to the Holiday Fishing Derbies at work.
You'll remember that I caught a 16 lb. carp at the Memorial Day Derby. That record still hasn't been broken, even though they have been trying all summer. The same four of us went again, three men and me. One caught a 4 lb. sucker, one caught a painted turtle, and one caught nothing. I, on the other hand, caught 5 suckers, the biggest being 2 1/2 lbs., and a 28 1/2", 9 1/2 lb. Northern Pike.
It was exciting because I was using my light action pole with 8 pound test line. I caught the pike on a worm! There was a bluegill in it's throat, and I think that I may have caught the gill first, but the pike was hooked in the corner of it's mouth. Of course, I released them all.
Love, Jean

How exciting you hold the record! Honestly, I have NEVER like fishing. Maybe I am to impatient and then we always had to be quiet so not to scare the fish away. Yeah right, fish can hear! Oh, then you have to eat them, YUCKO!
Enjoy your fishing and I hope your record stands for a long time!

Wow, Jean,
You know, the last time you posted a fisning story, I thought you were pretty lucky, but it's becoming quite clear that lucK may not even be involved. You obviously know what you're doing, and you do it very well. Congratulations.
Love,
Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Jean,
Congrats on winning the Derby, again! I love a good fish story and that's a nice size pike! Funny story, not surprised you outfished the men.
Your post brings back to mind my most exciting northern pike experience that I just hafta share- sadly, it wasn't during a derby.
My husband and daughter and I were ice fishing in Alaska on Ground Hog's Day 5 years ago. The ice thickness was over 4 foot and it took an 8" and a 6" auger to open up the holes. We were using tipups and smelt or herring for bait and I managed to land a 43" - 23 pound pike. It scared the heck out of me pulling him out of the hole. They are scary looking fish anyway.
We usually catch and relase if were not stocking fish for our freezer but I was so proud of this amazing fish and figured no one would believe it (didn't have a camera with) so, ya know the rest of the story? The big guy is mounted and hanging on the wall right in front of me. Boy, that was a fun experience. Thanks for the memory and your fun fish story.
Love,
Joanna
