that are processed in a factory that also processes one of my intolerances.

I have been eating Lindt dark chocolate candy bars. Had a reaction last time I ate one, soy is processed in their factory. I guess it was the luck of the draw, and I had won up until last week.

Jean,

I just checked the delphi forums gf list, because I recalled that I read sometime ago that Lindt was not gf. "The company can no longer guarantee that their products are gf." Dated 4/2004.

I knew I had passed by the Lindt bars for this reason. They look so good!
Darn....sorry they're off limits for you too.

I had found a particular Lindt dark chocolate (75% Cocoa) that didn't have soy licithin as an ingredient and thought I was safe eating it; however, as some of the old GF Kitchen dwellers may remember I had a full blown reaction to it - day time D as well as nocturnal; just completely out of control. It took me almost a month to figure out that I was reacting to the chocolate since nothing on the ingredient list indicated any of my (many) triggers. I ate one or two squares of it every day at the time. After two days of not eating it my D cleared up completely; like magic!!

Alice, I believe you were the one to point out back then also that some of the Lindt chocolates have gluten; as far as I can see the only possible ingredient in that particular Lindt chocolate that could contain gluten would be the vanilla (if it isn't pure).

Back in my days of trouble with Lindt I came to the same conclusion you made, Jean; but in the back of my mind I do have a suspicion toward the vanilla/gluten connection.

I am eager to read your response and your thoughts, Jean.

BTW I have found two other chocolates that I don't react to. 1) Enjoy Life chocolate chips and 2) A bar of dark chocolate that is exquisite but I have forgotten the name of it; I'll go back to the same specialty store and buy another bar so I can tell you what it is, KAY?!!

I am also curious to hear what your reactions to the chocolate are and how you discovered it was the chocolate.

First, I keep forgetting to check the group because it wasn't active for so long. I will now.

I was eating the exact same Lindt 75% bar you were and was OK a few times, so those had none of my intolerances. The last one sent me to bed for a day and feeling yucky the second day. I believe the last one must have been contaminated with soy during processing. The only other possibility is that they changed the ingredients without changing the label. As I said, I will now avoid anything that is processed in a plant that processed any of my intolerances.

I'm so happy to limit my choices more, NOT.

When we were in England I ate "Green and Black" dark chocolate with no problem, then accidently bought Lindt. It practically put me in the hospital. Ok that's an exaggeration, but I was not right for about 3 weeks afterwards. Whatever's in it is really bad.

Anyway, I was just browsing through old posts and thought I could add something obscure (you'd really have to search to buy "Black and Green" or visa versa, outside of England. I also ate "Poppets (the minty ballsy little dark chocolates)" when I was there and liked them so much that we've ordered a case over the internet. I love the internet.
