Caltrate

Post by annie oakley »

The Rhuemy Doc did tell me to get on Caltrate twice a day. He said he wished he could get that message thru to people with healthy knees as well. He said it was about the best form of calcium other than what we get from food...but who eats enough food to get what they need? Anyway I went and got caltrate 600 with Vitimin D. He gave me Ultracet and Mobic and it seem to help somewhat...doesn't take all the pain away...but it's better than nothing. I was feeling pretty sorry for myself yesterday...I still tear up but I realize I am not the only one with problems. Maybe Something will happen in my favor. I think I have been somewhat Like Sally lately....Angry and depressed and I am not sure I know all the reasons...but it is time to be thankful for what I have and not what I am missing. Love Oma

Hi, Oma,

Well, I don't have pain in my knees and am not facing surgery or insurance problems, so I just made up my mind to get out and do something and I am not so depressed and angry any more. Your situation is way different and you can't just wish it away. Sometimes there is a reason for being depressed and angry. And whiney. I love that word.

Maybe this is a good time to try to take things one day at a time. Focus your mind on what's going on today. Take your pills, go to work, feed the animals, whatever you have to do, AND GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!!! To try to understand and cope with everything you have coming up in one day is just too much. Slow down. And take credit for what you are doing. And know that you will take care of the rest of it in the same way. One day at a time. You are not alone in this and you don't have to carry your burden alone.

Please write here whatever you are feeling. And DON'T get depressed about being depressed!!! I think that all of us together make one pretty darn good psychiatrist.

Lots of love,

Sally

Hi Sally, I know that things will be ok...after all "THEY CAN'T EAT ME" That's a Ha Ha LOL thing. It was just too much at one time to get hit with. I usually take one day at a time, sometimes I get off track. I have Insurance...it's a Tempary insurance until April when I have been with the company a year. It's a pretty decent insurance it just doesn't pay as well as the other one will. I panicked and had an anxiety attack I think. I Forgot I had some Xannax and took one this am. One day at a time is usually how I take things.....my husband calmed me down quite a bit last night. He's very supportive...so I will get thru this and I will work on the other issues one at a time.. Love Oma

Oma,

Let me see if I can say this without offending you. You remind me alot of myself. I think that you expect too much from yourself. You want to be strong and a help to others all of the time. You don't want to be a bother to anyone.

Well, Girl, you're human and a darn wonderful one. You have the right to be upset about what's happening to you. Now is not the time to worry about other people's problems. You have your own and they are real. We're here to listen and help as much as we can. It sounds like you have a good husband too. SO, lean on us. You deserve to have others help you. After all, you'd do it for all of us.

All my love, Jean

People from this board and the one that Sally started told me about the greiving (sp) process you go through when you have an illness. You have a right to feel whatever about your knees! I saw a therapist for about 18 months right after I was diagnosed with MC. I had problems with my back and my knees at the same time.

In fact what you guys told me about the greiving process made me realize I could use some help. Thanks, I might not have sought help.

Oma, you will get through this. If you don't mind some unsolicited advice - Check your insurance to see if it will pay for physical therapy after the surgery. Also for when you go back to work, see if you can find some heavy support hose from a home health place. That is where I get mine. They are wonderful if you have to be on your feet. My surgeon wrote me a script so my insurance will pay for most of the cost. They cost about $35 a pair. If your insurance will not pay, they are worth every penney! Mine are the thigh high so they are easier to put on than panty hose. They are more expensive than TED hose but last longer.

Take care,
Brenda

Jean...You did not offend me...you are right.. I try not to be a bother to anyone but I am as human as the next person. The Mobic and the Ultracet have taken the edge off the knees somewhat. A friend Of SIL had a double knee replacement and while he was off work and not getting a paycheck he went to disability and got it. It can't hurt to try.

Brenda...thanks I am alresdy checking out the different support hose. pluse I have a couple knee braces (soft) that I have started using. This knee replacement thing is such a pain in the neck.

I know I have been a boob...but I also know I can lean on ya'll here. Like Sally said one day at a time. I normally do that...I just got spooked after all we have been thru here the last couple years. And let my emotions take me away. Love Oma

Hi Oma,

I'm glad to see that your knees are feeling a little better. We usually take our knees for granted, until we have a problem with them, and then it can sure put a crimp on our style.

I have a problem with one of my knees, if I do deep knee bends, (especially while climbing). It seems to be a ligament or something that gets out of place, and doesn't want to let me straighten my leg back out. I hate to force it, since I don't want to cause any additional damage, but it will usually relax, and work ok again, after about a minute or so.

I'll bet you would be able to get disability, especially if you do both knees.

As everyone has already pointed out, never hesitate to come here and say whatever you want , whenever you want--that's what we're here for, 'cause we all need support now and then.

Love,
Wayne

Oma,

We are here for you and you know the support you get here is true, loving and a boost to the healing process.

Right now concentrate on yourself and the insurance, etc. will work out for you. If you load that burden on yourself, your healing process will be slower. By the way, our CEO had both knees done at the same time, was walking the next day for rehab and was up and about in about 8 week. For her that was a true accomplishment since she is a "bit" overweight and that made the process more difficult. You can do it and we can help.

Love, Maggie
