I just saw a news report on the terrible fires in Texas and right away thought of Tex, Mary Beth, and all those PP who live there. I will be praying that everyone stays safe and they get under control soon.

Thanks Nancy. I heard about all of the fires around Texas but none here yet. We got a slight bit of rain from the tropical storm but not enough to make a difference. It was very windy here and I can see how easily a fire could spread. I live in a heavily wooded area with lots of tall pines and I am guessing about 1/3 of the trees are dead or dying. Yesterday and very large branch snapped off of a tree in out front yard. If we got a hurricane now it would be very dangerous as the trees would fall very easily. We desperately need rain but without the winds.

Yep, there are/were a bunch of them south of where I'm located. They've already lost a lot of homes, in some of those fires. The high winds, low humidity, and only scattered light sprinkles of rain were bad news over the weekend. And there's one that was still burning on the Ft. Hood reservation just NW of me, the last time I checked. It started about 10 days ago, I believe. I don't believe they've been actively fighting it, though, because most of that area is part of their firing range, and it's full of tons of unexploded shells, so no one wants to drive their expensive fire trucks in there. 
I believe they decided to just let it burn out on it's own.
At least the record high temps have eased up for a while. Some forecasters are talking about record lows for a few nights, instead.

Our last rain was on June 21. Since then, we've received 0.03", (yep, three-hundredths of an inch), altogether - there's none in the forecast, either. We've had exactly 7.5" all year. So it's no wonder that it's dry.
The last time I mowed my lawn was on June 4, and it hasn't needed mowing since. Of course, it's been stone dead for over a month, now.
Ah, the joys of living in Texas.

Hello everyone! I came on here just to make sure Tex and our other Texas friends are OK.. the news is especially scary knowing that there are people I know and care about in the area. So many displaced and many who have lost everything. Glad to hear you guys are OK.

I'm still OK, and I've been very lucky that there aren't any fires upwind of me, so the air has been fine, here. We can see smoke in various directions, at various times, but it hasn't been blowing in our direction, so far.
I'm pretty sure that Jan would be in line with the fires around Bastrop, but I believe that she and her Hubby are still away on vacation.

Well, she lives south of there - as far as I'm aware, her home should be out of range of the current fires.
