A tentative success story with a "yellow" food

Discussions can be posted here about mediator release testing (MRT), as offered by Oxford Biological Technologies, in conjunction with the LEAP program, which is claimed to determine a relative level of sensitivity to various foods and chemicals by measuring an increase in the ratio of liquids to solids in a blood sample that has been exposed to a specific allergen.

A tentative success story with a "yellow" food

Post by Polly »

Hi good buddies!

I think I have been able to add back in one of my reactive foods - tomatoes. It was yellow on my test but only "just". Last week I tried tomato slices and last night I had spaghetti sauce (first time since Jan.). So far, so good. I am excited!

Love,

Polly

Wonderful Polly! I'll bet you savored every bite. Tomatoes are yellow for me too (and high histamine) but I can eat very small quantities when I am not in a flare. Be sure to rotate and not overdo.

Love,

Mary Beth

Terrific, Polly!

Tomatoes were green on the MRT test for me, but I can't eat them due to the high histamine level. It sounds like one of the big differences between you and me is the mast cell issue. Hopefully I'll be able to eat them in small quantities like Mary Beth.

Thanks, cavedwellers!

Gloria, I think you are correct - you also have the added mast cell issue to complicate things. BTW, is the gut behaving better now? Sure hope so.

Hi Polly,

Yes, I'm starting to see Normans now, thanks to taking 9 mg./Entocort and 1/2 Imodium a day. I'll start tapering Imodium and Entocort as my symptoms remain stable.

I've experimented with eating Barney Almond Butter again, and it seems OK. Yea!!

I have a bunch of turnips, kohlrabi, yellow squash, acorn squash and zucchini from my garden. I would love to eat any of them, but I'm a little nervous to experiment right now. I had problems with all of them in the past. Cucumbers were my highest reactive food on the MRT test and squash is in the same family. That may be the reason I can't eat them.

Good to hear about the improvement, Gloria. And YEA is right about the almond butter- it helps to be able to tolerate a comfort/stick to your ribs type of food.

I reacted to cucumbers, too, on MRT but am able to tolerate zucchini and butternut squash. But I can't do yellow squash (highly reactive). So maybe there's a chance you can eventually tolerate some of that food family.

Best wishes for continued success,

Polly

Polly,

It's interesting that you scored highly reactive for cucumbers, too. No pickles for you, either. I seem to think that I fared better with zucchini than yellow squash. I thought they were very similar, but your experience shows that they are not.
