School year is off to a busy start! Unfortunately I'm worried my husband may end up having to join our group Hopefully not! We went back to MN in late July/early Aug. The peak of bug season. We all got eaten alive by mosquitoes (plus biting flies up @ the lake) - really nasty - I had huge welts that took a month to go away! Anyways he had a bite on his ankle - that still looked fresh and very red 9/1 so I told him to have it looked at. Went to the doc- said it was infected took a culture and gave him broad-spectrum abx. They've changed his abx 3 times - to something more specific, didn't work - next one gave him D. Today he went to an allergist to challenge test the penicillin allergy his mother always told him he had (my MIL - ugh - another story altogether) which thankfully he passed hence more options. How crazy is this? All from a lousy bug bite. I've got him taking Culturelle, guzzling yogurt etc. I guess it's a nasty strain of strep. Is that what MRSA is?
I'm thinking this makes future visits to the in-laws' hazardous to our health
Cheers and good health to all!
Mary

I believe MRSA is staph. I hope your DH recovers quickly!!
I was just talking about the bugs we encountered in our recent trip back the the Midwest with a friend of mine who is from Michigan. We both said how thankful we are to be living someplace where there are fewer insects.
It's always fun to see the "older" members of the forum pop in and post!

Mary,
I hope the infection gives up before the antibiotics have his colon screaming, "Uncle".
That brings to mind another silver lining to the drought that we're "enjoying" here in Texas. Mosquitoes and most bugs in general are approaching endangered species status, as the drought really gets going. The only mosquitoes I've seen in a long time were carried in from out of state, with the norther that blew through here about 10 days ago. It didn't take long for the heat to knock 'em out, either, after it warmed up again.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
