Hi Good Buddies!
Like Kari, I am finding out that I can tolerate some legumes. I have tried green beans, dried peas and limas, and canellini/navy beans. Maybe it is because my gut has calmed down even more since MRT or because I am eating them infrequently and sparingly. I haven't tried pinto beans, which were my MOST reactive red food. Isn't that weird, that I can tolerate some beans when I am highly reactive to pinto beans? But I guess nothing about food sensitivities surprises me any more.
One thing I really miss is hummus. Haven't tried chickpeas yet, but will do so soon. Another one of my red foods was sesame. So, no tahini. Sigh. Does anyone have any ideas for a tahini substitute? If I could find one, I could enjoy hummus and babaganoush again.

As I recall, you and I tolerate different nuts - almonds are OK for you, yes? I would soak almonds overnight, then blend with enough water to make a tahini-textured goo. If almonds aren't right for you, maybe cashews? You could make up for the loss of the tahini flavor with extra lemon, garlic, cumin, smoked paprika... or whatever you love *and* tolerate.

That's very exciting about you tolerating some beans/legumes/nuts - yeah!!! I don't know what I'd do without them. So interesting that we react to opposite things from that category on MRT. I can have all of them, except green pea, lima bean and pecans, which seem to be your most friendly ones. Makes me wonder if there is a really good explanation for that, relating to what they are composed of.
Anyhow, seems like you have gotten good advise on the hummus. Thought I'd add a note about how I've been using garbanzo beans lately. I saute them with scallions, potatoes, onion, broccoli and cauliflower in lots of EVOO (for flavor and extra calories). My seasoning has been turmeric and celtic salt. I feel particularly well after eating this meal, and have been making it for breakfast several times lately. Occasionally, I have an egg with it, but I'm afraid to overdo it with the eggs, since they were reactive on MRT.
How are you doing with the tomatoes? It's one of my dreams to have tomatoes again, but I'm not quite ready to test them out yet. So good to hear you're doing well with the MRT/LEAP program.

Yes, it's interesting how opposite we are with our foods. And your saute sounds yummy. If only I could eat potatoes and cauliflower! But maybe it would be tasty with sweet potatoes and different veggies. I will try garbanzos soon - I like their "heaviness" - they probably keep you full.
Aaaaaah, tomatoes. I'm afraid I overdid it and am currently in a mini-flare. Just D - no aches/pains. But enough that I had to hide behind a tree and poop yesterday on the trail. Fortunately, since MC I am NEVER without my kleenex. I got so cocky about my initial success with tomatoes that I was eating some almost every day. Made a big pot of veggie soup with them and was also using ketchup and eating them sliced and in pasta sauce. I really do know better about small amounts and rotating........but sometimes I just get carried away and have to push that old envelope. It was a good lesson to me - a good reminder of why we need to eat the way we do.
Good news that you can tolerate an occasional egg. And I admire your restraint in not overdoing it, as I just did with tomatoes. LOL!

LOL Polly - I know that "tree routine" only too well - here in Colorado it's mostly "large rock routine" as the trees are sparse in the high elevations :). Miraculously, since going gluten and everything else free, I have never had to search out that perfect camouflage rock:). I went on 14 major hikes this summer, and did not have to go a single time - yeah!!!
Anyhow, sorry about the tomatoes - I've done the same thing many times, as my natural exuberance tends to get the better of me. The last food item I got in trouble with was Udi's gluten free bread :(. It seems that the longer I stay bread free, the better I feel and the less I miss it.
Hope you can introduce those tomatoes back quickly, albeit at a slower pace :). Good luck with them, as well as the garbanzos.
