I have been GF/DF for about 5 weeks now, still having symptoms that don't seem to be directly related to any particular food I'm eating, though I'm sure I could be missing something (I am keeping a diary). I have been on 50mg/day of Zoloft, which I know has been associated with the onset of MC. I have decided to try and gradually back off the Zoloft and see how I do, and if it alleviates my MC symptoms. One thing I'm unclear about: if your MC is medication-induced, is it still necessary to alter your diet? Obviously I will keep doing the GF/DF since I have noticed direct correlations between those items and my symptoms, but I'm wondering if those symptoms will go away when I'm off the Zoloft, or will I still have to deal with the dietary restrictions?
I realize there is no one answer to this, but I was hoping someone else had had this experience and could share their findings.

Hi Cynthia,
You have a reason to have hope, because many cases of drug-induced MC can indeed be resolved simply by discontinuing taking the drug that is causing the symptoms. That doesn't always work for everyone, of course, but the shorter the length of time that you have been reacting to the drug, the better the chances that discontinuing it will be all that is needed to bring lasting remission. You would need to continue to avoid the drug, (and probably all similar drugs), in the future, in order to maintain remission, of course.
Good luck, and please keep us informed on your progress.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
