Nope, can't do it

Post by draperygoddess »

I have been trying to half my dose of Zoloft this week, and today I'm feeling the effects. That feeling of dread I know so well is back. Unfortunately, my first stress reaction is--you guessed it--D. I think I'm going to have to go back to the full dose. This is so frustrating--it took awhile to find an antidepressant that worked for me in the first place. The idea of trying to find another medicine that doesn't irritate my digestive system is daunting.

Meanwhile, I feel like I've gotten stuck in this cycle: I have D, so I take Immodium, which makes me constipated for two days, then I might have one good day before it starts over again (though lately, even that "good" day includes stomach pain). I don't really feel like eating--nothing sounds good to me, and obviously something's still causing me to react. And the doc still insists there's nothing wrong with me.

Sorry to complain--just tired, I guess.

I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time! I have taken Cymbalta in the past and getting offf of it was as bad as I think it would be to get off heroin. I was so sick...dizzy, nauseated, sweaty. I will never take that drug again! I have been taking wellbutrin for a while now with no problems.

Have you tried taking pepto? It didn't work for me, but several people have had some good results from it. I tink the standard dose for MC is 3 pepto 3 times a day.

I wish I had more to help you.

Denise, thanks for the encouragement! Someone else had mentioned Welbutrin in another post--might be worth a try. Pepto does nothing for me. The Immodium controls the D--just a little too well! I feel a little better just having griped a little.

Cynthia,

How large of a dosage of Imodium are you taking? I've found that 1/2 pill a day seems to work well for me. I would cut the pill into as small of a piece as needed to keep from having D or C.

I was about to post the same suggestion as Gloria. I took Imodium for a week or so after my ileostomy, and I found that not only was a whole pill unnecessary, but it made me quite dizzy. Taking half a pill cut the dizziness down to a manageable level, and still worked almost as well.

Thanks, I will try halving the Immodium. I'll let you know how it goes!
