Can you tolerate coffee?
I'm just wondering, how many of us have a problem with coffee? If you're able to drink it, how much and how do you take it (black, sweetened, etc.).

I had been drinking coffee as a latte, with lactose free milk for about 5 years before Dx
Post Mc diagnosis and once i realised that Dairy was an issue, i did manage to convert to black coffee.
I dont buy commercial, i buy from a coffee roaster, it is a mild blend that is not bitter,
I have about 3 cups a day (it is half coffee half water) and have some demura sugar in it
For the coffee i have at work, i brew the coffee at home stir in the sugar, refrigerate it and then take it to work. Using my cup there is no risk of any contamination from the other stuff at work.
It costs me about $1 per day to have this coffee.
There is a coffee van that comes to work each morning and people pay $3 - $4 dollars for their coffee each day.

I was a die-hard Starbuck's drinker until diagnosis. A couple of weeks ago I tried a low acid decaf coffee from Healthwise Coffee. It's about $13 a bag so not much more than the Starbuck's I was buying at the grocery store. I have to say I REALLY like it. Since it's low acid it's always smooth and easy to drink black. Now that the weather is getting colder it's been a real treat to be able to drink coffee again. Yesterday I ordered two bags and got free shipping. :)

I drink black coffee daily, at about the same amount I was enjoying pre-MC. I have about 1.5 (strong) cups each morning, and rarely have any later in the day. Today I was fasting, for Yom Kippur, and definitely noticed that i have a mild addiction to the caffeine... because I was pretty dim-witted by 3-4pm
It is a huge part of our morning ritual - which may be even more habit-forming than the caffeine itself. It has always struck me as crazy that I can drink coffee, but a piece of toast would about kill me. But that's exactly how it is, for sure!

Thanks, you all have made my day! I quit coffee for the first two weeks on the diet, then added back one cup a day. With this latest flare, I've noticed it seems to be giving me trouble again. I guess I need to back off till things settle down--but hopefully I'll get it back soon! I definitely had some caffeine withdrawl symptoms going on at first, but now I just miss the taste.

I only tolerate decaf coffee, now in Amman I don't have a descent coffee maker yet (I only like espresso or cappuccino), so for now it is only tea. Sometimes in a cafe (or starbucks) I order a decaf espresso and emphasize it need to be decaf "yes yes no problem", but sometimes I do have a reaction. I was already suspecting that decaf is a problem too, but while I was in Holland I had no problems. So I am almost sure that some cafe's here say they serve decaf, but just give me a normal one.
After some experimenting I found out I prefer ricemilk for cappuccino. But I also discovered it does not taste good, with all the decaf coffee. I really liked with the ground decaf coffee of segafredo.
You see, even with MC and having to give up caffeine and dairy, with some experimenting and creativity it is still possible to have a cappuccino.

Ahhhhh - coffee - the world's most popular drug :). I've started my day with a cup of coffee almost all my life. Then I discovered that I was highly sensitive to it through my MRT test. It was really tough to let it go - I was irritable and sluggish, often with a pounding headache. It took me a couple of weeks to feel semi normal again. I've had to think of something else to entice me out of bed in the morning - so now I do yoga poses and meditation, and am actually starting to look forward to this new little routine.
However, I fully intend to go back to coffee as I heal more - I love everything about it, from the aroma, to the taste, to what it does for my brain. It's as if it clears the fog, and makes my thinking crystal clear. Then, of course, it is the rush of energy. My acupuncturist suggested that I have a little coffee every 2 or 3 days. I've been trying with 1/4 cup of coffee in this manner, but it does not seem to work very well, since the days I don't have it, I seem to go into a mini withdrawal. Don't know if this is real, or just in my mind :).
Love,
Kari

Interesting thread. I used to drink two cups a day with half-and-half and hazelnut syrup (DaVinci) sweetened with Splenda. My first cup was always before breakfast. I had to run to the bathroom many days during or right after breakfast, yet I didn't connect that to the coffee!
But - I've been on 9 mg Entocort for 3 weeks again - I had been on 6 mg for the prior month because I couldn't get the nausea and D under control. The Entocort always helped 99% within a week but not this time. So, I gave up drinking coffee the first thing in the AM and waited until after breakfast to have a cup. That worked quite well but I often have a somewhat loose but formed BM after that first and only cup 11 AM-ish. So, I seem to have developed a problem with coffee.
Today I had no coffee at all - just Sweet and Spicy Red Tea from Good Earth. Very nice and no problems yet today. I hope I haven't been taking all that Entocort for nothing! Sadly, the tea has no caffeine and I'm sleepy and aphasic. But not running to the bathroom has been a blessing.
I really need to do the sensitivity tests. Should I go right to the MRT or do Enterolab too?
