chocolate and wine

chocolate and wine

I dont do either although i want to.
i though both chocolate and wine stimulate the digestive tract and cause diarrhea so i am afraid.
does anyone know any good ones that don't cause as much problems???

I like Lindt 85% - no dairy, no soy. There are other brands, but that one is pretty easy for me to find in stores nearby. There is a local brand of fair-trade, organic, everything-free chocolate, but it's very expensive. You can find the Lindt bars on Amazon, but they are more expensive than what we pay, so it's worth shopping around.

Trader Joe's also has at least one DF/SF chocolate bar. I have a bag of chocolate chips a friend gave me right after Passover, which are DF and SF (observant Jews avoid soy during Passover, as well as dairy with/after a meat meal year-round). I'll be keeping an eye out for those next spring, but the Lindt is very pleasing.

I do think some wines agree with me more than others, but I'm not really sure I know which are which.

When you're reacting fiercely, both wine and chocolate are likelier to be troublesome. Once things settled, I found both OK. If you still react, once your symptoms are more or less stable/resolved, then it's time to suspect you have a problem with one or the other, but don't despair if your first attempt is iffy...

Wines are gluten-free, except for the products known as wine coolers, and similar blended products, which are blended back with products that contain gluten. Some people have problems with the sulfites in wines, especially wines that have added sulfites. Sulfites occur naturally in wines, but some wines have less than others, and sometimes even people who are sensitive to sulfites can locate low-sulfite wines that work for them. Folks who have problems with sulfites in wines, usually have trouble with sulfites in other foods, as well, and cannot take sulfa drugs.

Enjoy Life makes GF, DF, SF chocolate chips. They are available at Whole Foods and stores which also carry GF products. When I still tolerated chocolate, I would melt the chips and pour them into a Wilton candy mold. Once they hardened in the refrigerator, I could eat a couple of pieces at a time to satisfy my chocolate cravings.

If you aren't intolerant to corn you can actually make your own chocolate treats using unsweetened "Bakers" brand by melting down and adding powdered sugar. I have made many chocolate goodies this way and add whatever I want.
Trader Joes & Whole Foods carry sulfite free wines. You just have to ask whoever is in charge of that specific department in the two stores. I react violently to the sulfites in wine. Never have been a big wine drinker, but family & friends have wanted me to try ones that they have liked! I pass!

Enjoy Life has GF, DF chocolate bars which are delicious. They even have rice krispy bars, like Nestle's Crunch. I love them all, but limit myself. I can get them in my grocery store. They are more expensive, but I'm the only one eating them so a bar will last more than a week. Just enough to satisfy that chocolate craving.
