I have off-and-on pain in the lower left side, right above the groin. I don't know if it's a muscle issue or a bowel issue but I believe it's diverticulosis in the sigmoid colon acting up. I have a few small diverticula there, according to my last colonoscopy report. This has happened quite a few times; first - constipation, then soreness, followed by several rounds of D close together. Sometimes there is a fever. There is always mucous too, but none with "normal" diarrhea. Then it's over. There is always a slight twinge down there made worse when I sit too long.
I *did* eat a cup or two of kettlecorn popcorn the day before. Between giving up popcorn and coffee, I'm not the happiest camper but I'll survive!

Cory and Marcia,
That pretty well describes my pattern of reactions, and I had diverticulosis/diverticulitis as well. I believe that fermentation was a common problem for me, when I was reacting, because of the cyclic pattern, and the fact that it sometimes took several days for a reaction to reach the "D" stage.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Mary,
Remember that pain and cramps are associated with constipation, also. When the gut is used to nothing but D, for a long period of time, the first formed stools can be painful, and if they linger too long, the pain can become quite significant as stuff stacks up due to constipation.
IOW, you may need to reduce your dosage rate of Entocort. Others here have had that same problem while using Entocort. Sometimes it works too good, for those who are extra-sensitive to it, and the dose has to be reduced.

there has been many a time i have referred to MC management as an endless maze, or an exhausting episode of the amazing race! as you figure out what works and what doesnt, there are more good days than bad ones....
Yoda is one of my hero's - I even have Yoda Slippers all the way from the USA that helped me survive a very cold winter
(the weather here is warming up and i have had to put them away until next winter)
a few weeks ago i posted a message in yoda speak which was a happy birthday message for Joe. I am presuming that the PP family must accept my nutty behaviour no questions asked, as no-one commented.
take care

Belladonna can cause a lot of side effects, and one of them is to dilate your pupils, so be sure to have sunglasses handy if you go out in the sun.

Mary,
If you're still having that pain, without D, it could be caused by gastritis, (if the pain seems to be in the area of your stomach). A corticosteroid can cause that, especially if you happen to use any NSAIDs.
So if the pain is still a problem, you might ask your doc if he or she has an opinion on that possibility.

Cynthia after my colonoscopy I also had pains in my lower right side for about 3 days. Overall I also had a differrent kind of backache that felt muscular in nature that also took a few days to resolve. I'm due to have another colonoscopy soon, not looking forward to it...
Over the past year I have had some pains in my lower left that my GI doc thinks are due to the few diverticulie that were noted during the last colonoscopy. These have not been too bad, just a few twinges that lasted a couple of days.
Managing MC can seem like a maze and finding our way through does take a lot of patience and of course knowledge is key, finding a site like this is an invaluable resource
Gabes your supposed to keep my birthday a secret...

There are so many possible causes for pain that you will need to describe the pain to him or her and see where that goes. As I mentioned in my first response to your question, that pain could be from either constipation, (or just the pressure from normally formed stools, when your colon is still so sensitive). Or it could even be from something unrelated, but the chances are pretty high that it's part of your MC symptoms. If the pain feels like cramps, you may need to reduce your Entocort dosage slightly, because Entocort can easily cause constipation for those of us who are more sensitive to the drug than average.
Where is the pain centered? That's the most important point. Is it a dull, constant pain, or a sharp, intense pain. Does it wax and wane, depending on your bowel movements? Does it change over time, relative to the passage of time after you eat?
