Im Pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found out Sunday that my husband and I will get to become parents in roughly 35 weeks from now! Its amazing and wonderful and overwhelming and scary all at the same time. My head is still spinning like Linda Blair in the Exorcist cause my head is spinning!
I have my first prenatal visit and ultrasound on the 14th bc they wont do it till your 8 week mark. I talked to my GI and OB/GYN previously about my meds during pregnancy. Both agreed that if I was flaring they were ok to take and if I wanted to ween down that was fine as well. I have done plenty of research on all three and they are not on the NoNo list, but not on the safest list. They are all considered class B (class A being the safest). I am slowly weening down as not to cause flares, especially being close to the morning sickness stage. I don't want to be on the "throne' holding a waste basket!
My biggest question to anyone who has experienced pregnancy is did you colitis interfere? My GI told me that sometimes no colitis symptoms at all bc your body is in baby protection mode and other times women flare through out. I am not actively flaring and hoping to stay that way. Any advice is welcome!

Congratulations! Your GI doc is correct - some MC patients experience remission during pregnancy, while for others, their symptoms become much worse. We have a number of members who have gone through this, so hopefully, some of them will notice your post and respond. Most of them only post occasionally, so it may be a few days before they see your post.
I certainly hope that you're one of the lucky ones.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

My second pregnancy was 2 years before my official MC diagnosis, but I did have IBS and increasing D before the pregnancy. I experienced remission and even some constipation, which is typical in pregnancy. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy your pregnancy MC-wise. You should plan to have your autoimmune status closely monitored during the post-partum period, because that's when things seem to flare -- when the immune system is revving back up to make antibodies for baby and keep mom healthy after an immune-suppressed pregnancy.
Congrats!!

Congratulations! I know your husband must be so excited. I was diagnosed with CC about 18 months after the birth of my first child who is now 7. I have a 30 month old now so I have experienced CC while pregnant. I waited to get pregnant until things were quiet on the MC homefront. I had completely eliminated gluten and dairy for several years and had been cruising along just fine without medication for some time. I hadn't, however, eliminated soy, and I believe that triggered problems for me. I am now soy free and follow a mostly paleo diet and am doing well. So anyhow, I had a pretty rough pregnancy. My MC flared early on but not to the point where I needed medication. At about the 4 month mark I flared so bad I ended up in the hospital, mainly for rehydration purposes, and to monitor the baby. I had a really rough few weeks. I then started taking Pentasa which worked very well for me. The rest of the pregnancy went fairly well. I weaned off the Pentasa shortly after giving birth. I had a great perinatologist who supported my diet choices and was just all around wonderful. My OB and GI Dr.'s really gave me little in the way of feedback for dealing with MC during pregnancy. It was the perinatologist who really cared for me. I gave birth to a healthy but small daughter at 35 weeks. She was induced because of concerns of her small growth compared to the expected growth at her gestation age. My first daughter was the same way and she was pre-MC. Anyhow, if I could do it again, I would of course remain gluten and dairy free, go soy free, and eliminate all grains from my diet. I would load up on the Vitamin D and of course Folic Acid. I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy. I know this is such a special time for you and your husband!
I will send good thoughts your way!

What exciting news! I hope you're lucky to enjoy what a friend of mine called 'free hormones' (her autoimmune symptoms disappeared in pregnancy, and she was sooo happy).
Wishing you a joyful pregnancy, a healthy happy baby, and can't wait to hear how you're doing throughout the remaining weeks!
Thanks for sharing your big news, and please keep us posted!

This was me - hopefully you will be equally lucky! I was on Asacol when I became pregnant - I ditched it around month 3 and haven't needed it since (my "baby" will be 9 next month!). I credit pregnancy for throwing me into long-term remission. Congrats and best of luck to you!Ellie10 wrote:

Wunnerful, wunnerful! Congratulations!!!! Babies are just the best thing in the world.
Can't give you any advice about MC and pregnancy, since mine didn't show up till later, but hope that you are one of the lucky ones whose symptoms go away during pregnancy! Enjoy every minute!
