I didn't do the gene testing, Lassie, so I don't know if I have the gene or not.

My dachsund is extremely loving too. Great dog!

Hi Lassy,

Wow, sorry to hear you are having so many difficutlies with your food intake. I did too! Its hard to go to a supermarket and find something that we can eat! So I decided to do some research and found some amazing websites to make my own foods. My favorite is "Comfy Belly" I also use Specific Carbohydrate Diet and Paleo diet. I have to say the recipes are not bad at all. I have a VERY fussy husband and lately everything I make for me he eats it too! The only down side is that in the beginning you ALWAYS feel like your in the kitchen cooking something. I have it down to a science, now most of my food is prepared on Sunday and I make large quantities and freeze some. I hope you like to cook!

Robin,

I know what you mean about feeling as though you're living in the kitchen, at first. I've been lucky that my husband has been pulling more than his share of the kitchen duty - and he'll be away on a big project soon, so I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot of time in the kitchen re-configuring our new routines for one. It really helps to have a few meals "in the bank" - I'm hoping both to stockpile a few familiar favorites, and develop or discover some new goodies to share when he gets back.

I have to say, when I look at what a lot of people rely on for snacks etc., I think we may be doing ourselves a giant favor! A friend of mine was having a "5-hour energy" supplement, and I asked her what's in it - she had no idea (she said, "nothing you'd put in your temple of a body, I'm sure" - but she meant it in a nice way). I wonder if she'd need an energy boost, if she ate differently, but she can tell I think that even when I keep my mouth shut... so I'm keeping my mouth shut :grin:

Hi Sara,

You have a GREAT personality! You always make me smile! I am jealous, your husband is in the kitchen cooking with you! Mine doesn't even know how to boil water!

To tell you the truth I don't mind doing all the cooking. Its my peaceful time! Plus I am very old fashion....I don't like anything in a can and very rarely use anything in a box! My husbands grandmother taught me how to cook and back then she bought everything for that day! Every morning she would go to local grocery store and buy what she need for that day(she didn't even have a car, she used a push cart).

I have some great recipes so if you want to try something new let me know.

Did you ever look at some elses shopping cart? What bothers me are the ones who have kids in there carts and they have nothing but junk. I want to stop them and say do you know what that will do to your child! But like you I keep my mouth shut! Its funny since I have gotten sick my sons are even eating heathier. They know that I will open my mouth with them! They both feel better for eating healthier. I just wish I could get my husband to eat better (I don't think that will ever happen in my lifetime).

Us cooking types have a big advantage, when it turns out all those things in boxes have Mystery Ingredients. (And thank you for the sweet words!)

My husband reminds me of a little old lady from the old country - he would buy everything for that day, too. There was a time when people just didn't have the space, especially refrigerator space, to have a week's worth of miles going moldy in back corners.

My husband is "along for the ride" - and eats very well, but isn't giving up gluten, etc., entirely. I know he feels as though he'll get some benefit from my non-optional pantry cleaning, diet management, etc., even if he eats pizza or bread or beer or whatever. He sure eats that stuff less than he would if I ate it too - and maybe that will benefit your husband as well.

Hi Robin,
Thanks for the info on comfy belly - was away yesterday and haven't had a chance to check it out.
What a DX you got. Can't believe you don't have D???? Your Gi sounds awesome. I can agree with him about using the brand and not generic. I finally got the OK from my insurance company allowing me to use Entocort. The generic did not agree with me. I am on 1/2 Imodium am and pm and there is some improvement in D but my stomach is still rumbling -maybe from the rice cakes or salmon last night - needed a change. I think I'm going to do the MRT test bc I would just like a plan to follow. There are so many variables and I'm not very good at figuring it out. The celiac I know what I'm dealing with but the MC is a real challenge that requires a lot more patience and sensitivity. The sensitivity part is where I start second guessing myself. I over analyze - which can be a curse.
I did get a SCD cook book, while on the Entocort. I was really feeling peachy on the Entocort, first time around. I didn't get too far with SCD bc I went off all dairy. I was however making almond bread, from Ellana's Pantry, protein shake ( rice) with almond or coconut milk and blueberries, goji and hemp powder. I was eating lamb, fish, beef, quinoa, asparagus, green beans , cauliflower, avocados, squash, kale, bokchoy, turnips, carrots, etc. - I love good food. I used to love salads but haven't had any in almost a year. Then I went off the Entocort and my issues returned, however, not the number per day or the same level of pain, which I am very thankful.
Thank God for the crock pot is all I can say. I've been making separate meals from what my hubby eats bc he does not enjoy soups - especially with limited ingredients. We are both on our own dietary plans since I've been on a limited BRAT diet. He's Italian and will never give up bread. He is really good at making sure that I'm not exposed to any of his bread crumbs. Very anal in his cleaning habits, so no worry there. He doesn't like leftovers either, but he does do the food shopping which helps a lot.

Lassie,

I know what you mean about over-analyzing... in the end, you get to the answers, but you tend to have more unnecessary alarms. I definitely have seemed to react to foods at times that are OK at others, so it's really hard to have a complete and accurate picture. (I think this is one reason by eating meals with few ingredients is so helpful in the early stages, and whenever symptoms resurface).

I'm also blessed with great spousal supported in shopping and cooking. He's not quite such a whiz at cleaning (neither am I), but we are getting there. We have very few foods in the house these days that don't work for me (otherwise the carelessness with the cleaning would be a huge issue). Those foods we treat in kind of a haz-mat sort of way, so the kitchen is basically "Sara-friendly" and the other foods have to go off and huddle in a corner.

Hi Lassie,

I too, am married to an OLD FASHION ITALIAN! Sundays here is like a holiday with all the family and friends around the dining room table for hours of eating and eating and eating! I do have 2 kitchens so it is easier for me. Ones for me and the other one is for everybody else. But I am with Sara on this, in the beginning less is better (even now I don't eat a lot of different things at one time). My husband will NEVER change his eating habits and to tell you the truth if I never had problems with my belly I would still be eating the food as well. The only thing I miss is italian bread and some pastas, but other than that I don't miss anything else. I know with me the more things on my plate the harder it is for me to digest. I also eat very small meals 5 times a day because of my digestion problems. Don't worry I still get D every once in awhile. I really try to keep a very strick diet. It is not easy in the beginning but I can tell you that it does get better. I to am lactose free now so some of the recipes I just make changes like apple sauce for yogurt or coconut cream for yogurt. It works and when my belly is happy I am happy!

Hi Sara & Robin,
How do you successfully food challenge if you're still on medications. I know the Entocort was holding things in check for me. I am wondering if Pepto and Imodium also are not allowing your body to know if certain foods are irritating or causing inflammation (D) unless your not taking anything??
My kitchen is a work in progress. We did our last addition/ renovation to our house - enlarged our tiny kitchen and tiny bathroom on second floor. We had the major construction done by last Christmas - the metal roofers came after Christmas bc that's the soonest they could come. I'm building the kitchen cabinets and it's been slow going, since I had to prioritize what I had the energy to do. My studio is across the driveway. I do picture framing/ woodworking. Work comes first because I have to meet deadlines, then figure skating for my sanity, and then home improvement. We finally got this small but well organized pantry done and hope to get the long counter with the sink and dishwasher completed in the next 2 weeks. The kitchen is definitely operable but not ideal. The good news is that the area that we are working with seems more than what we had before the renovation. So as my healing progresses so does my kitchen.
I know what you mean about the Italian family get together s. When we lived in Queens during our early married years and had our kids, it was expected that you got together for Sunday dinners or what amounted to never leaving the table and eating all night. My husbands cousin's wife cooked for an army. One of the reason's we left Queens and moved to Vermont was because my husband did not want to get dragged into the family business. My husband's mother is not Italian, so it was considered a mixed marriage - as was ours. I really enjoyed those family meals family - in hindsight not so healthy for me though.
