The Chatroom

Post by tex »

Of course, any of us can get together in the chatroom, at any time we want, but would there be any interest in regularly scheduled chats, (in the chatroom)? It's so much faster and easier to discuss a subject in the Chatroom than by using posts to the various forums. Of course, there's no time to do research when in the Chatroom, but it's a lot of fun for getting to know each other, and just "chewing the fat".

We are scattered all over the world, so selecting convenient times may be a tough project. Most U S and Canadian members would obviously prefer a different time than members from the UK, Spain, or Australia, but maybe we can schedule a few chats each week at various times, so that anyone who is interested might be able to join in at least one or two of them.

Let's see if we can find some times of the week, and times of the day, that will work for some of us. Also, maybe various individuals can "host" chats at certain times, by being there to open a chat, so that members will know when a chat is available.

Don't worry about your own timezone for this poll, just make your selection, wherever you are, and we'll work out the details later.

Your suggestions and coments are certainly welcome, here.

Love,
Wayne

Wayne,

It's 10:30pm AK time. Most of you are usually sound asleep by now because of the time zone differance.

I'm often home during the day and if a chat was scheduled then, or in the evening I would make time for it depending on what's going on with my household. Or, I would plan my family activity around a chat to see how it worked.

I've never chated, Lannie does it with friends and they ramble about alot of stuff however, if more than a couple people are on it gets kind of hard to converse. I'm not sure we can discuss MC issues, but it might be fun to just have fun chatting about whatever suits our fancy.

Wayne, I am going to restrain from voting on this one right now because in 2 weeks I'll be leaving for Florida and then I won't have internet access for at least a month (maybe more) until Bill decides to join me down there (he'll leave here when he's unhappy with the weather and can't golf any more - LOL).

Anyway, I want to pass on this one for that reason but I should be able to be free/get free most of the time (except nights - sleeping) once I get online again.

Since Larry works nights, I am usually bored in the evenings! LOL I could host most any night during the week.

Chat rooms are a good way to meet people, get quick answers to a question and just have a good time. I have a lot of fun using them.

Joanna,

Mars, Oma, and I had a chat last night. We talked about anything, and everything, ranging from health issues, to flowers, to wildlife, to I-don't-remember-whatall. Mars's comments are right on the money--It's fun, and relaxing, and a good way to catch up on the latest gossip. LOL. We also talked about posting this polll, to see if there was any interest in setting up some sort of regular chat schedule.

True, if more than a few members join the chat, it can get confusing, but it's easy to open another chatroom, to divide up the conversatons. All somone has to do is type /create [any arbitrary name of a new subroom], and a new room will be opened. To join the conversation in the new room anyone else will need to type /join [the name of the new subroom]. To leave a conversation and return to a previous room, just type /leave. You can view the usesr instructions by clicking on the box with the questionmark icon, below the chat window.

I'm encouraged that you and Shirley would be available during the day, as that will allow us to schedule some chats that should be more convenient for some of our overseas friends to join in.

Love,
Wayne

That me. Evenings any day of the week. If I should have something to do I will just not be there.

I think this is a good idea. To plan a special day. What fun.

Well, since we can't vote for more than one choice, I put in any evening any day of the week. Of course weekends I'm around during the day as well (often) especially as the weather is getting colder (HA its been hot and muggy again this week, but the leaves are a-changing).

Look forward to chatting at some point.

I'm thinking that we might want to schedule chats at least two or three times a week in the evenings, and maybe schedule some daytime chats on weekends.

Of course, anyone could schedule a chat anytime they wanted, simply by posting a sticky with a title something like Chat tonight at X pm, Pacific Daylight Savings Time, (PDST). If it were posted first thing in the morning, that should allow time for most members to see it. Or, it could be posted the day, or evening before, saying Chat Monday Evening at X pm EDST, or Chat tomorrow, (Wednesday) at 2 pm, CDST.

During the times of the day when there is a fair amount of traffic flow on the board, (like in the evenings), sometimes you can just go to the Chatroom and hang out for a while, and someone else will be along to chat. Sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesn't. Setting up a schedule should take most of the guesswork out of it.
