A question Re: disabilty
I am wondering when I should apply for this dissability. I talk to the surgeon on Thursday...Mike is going with me. He wants to be on top of things. I'm glad he wants to be. Anyway...should I start to apply as soon as I find out what the Doctor says...or do I wait til after The surgery? I am clue-less as I have never applied before, if anyone know's I'd be real apprecitive to know. I am really trying to explore all avenues and help myself get set up . I am also going to look into Home health visitations while I am off. as I will need someone to look in on me while Mike is at work. So , I am taking charge of this fear I have of this surgery. I know it needs to be done...I am going to attack this and get it done and get well. Love Oma

Good for you, Oma!! Throw all the spaghetti at the wall and see if anything sticks!! Or something like that.
I worked for the State of Oregon so the disability for me when I hurt my back was a little different. I started with my doctor, though. One thing I can say, is that they probably won't make it easy on you so you can get out some of your aggressions by throwing darts at a picture of whoever is in charge of your case! The gov't!!!
Good luck. With your knees you should get it.
Lots of love,
Sally

Hi Oma,
I didn't take the time to read much of this, but the answer to your question can be found at this site, plus the answers to just about any other questions you might have about applying for SSB.

This site looks so handy, that I think I'll add a link to one of the information forums, in case anyone else needs the information.
Love,
Wayne
P S Ok, I looked it up--the answer is found in question number 2, under SSD & SSI DISABILITY QUESTIONS. It's the day after you stop working.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Sally....you're so funny! I needed that laugh. I'll get the dart board out and see what I can do. Thanks. I already figured the Gov'n doesn't go easy into the night.
Shirley...I just decided that I would change what I could and deal with the rest. Everyone on this board has helped me with the support you all give. Love Oma

disability
I was just wondering if anyone here did get SSI disability for having Microscopic Colitis. I have it along with osteoporisis and I'm also hypothyroidism. Now I haven't worked in 2 years just wondering if I would have a chance of getting it.
Kitkin,
Yes, we've had one or two members who were able to get SSI disability for MC. Typically, though, hiring an attorney who specializes in SSI disability claims will greatly improve the odds of having an application approved. Rejections are the rule, and hiring the right attorney is almost a necessity in order to achieve the persistence that is needed to get the job done.

Thank you Tex for your response. I've tried to go back to work but the running to the bathroom sure makes it difficult to work. Plus the last job I just had lasted only a few days because the boss only wanted to you go to the bathroom on break time which was impossible for me to hold it at times. Thanks again, Kitkin
