Update...and change of diagnosis

Post by Mendy »

First off let me start by saying 3 years ago I was told by a doctor I had IBS. My bowels settled down so I took it at face value.

In February of this year I got so very sick, and really thought I was dying. I lost 35 lbs, and finally had a colonoscopy in June. (On a prior trip to the ER they did see my colon was inflammed) They then diagnosed me with mastocytic enterocolitis due to my stain showing as positive but no other spots were found to show Crohns or UC.

I have never really gotten any better except for the D did go away, but my joints still ached and I never have really felt good since.

So back to the GI doctor I go and he runs more test. He ran the new test by Prometheus Labs. The IBD sgi Diagnostic. It has come back positive for Crohns. This test is 92% accurate, and was just started being ran since it was released Oct. 24th 2011...so very glad my GI doc is up to doing the new stuff!!

I have a small bowel series on Tuesday and then they are doing the pill cam. I will post more as I know more. Just wanted to update everyone and see if any of you have ever had the IBD sgi diagnostic test done???

Take care everyone:)!

Mendy,

So sorry you've had such a rough year! I don't have any experience with the tests you've done, but hopefully they will shed more light on your condition(s) and you'll know better how to proceed. Keep us posted!

Mendy,

I'm sorry to hear about a Crohn's diagnosis, but at least now you'll be able to work out a treatment plan.

Good luck with the tests, and thanks for the update.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Mendy, I had pretty much the same path that you are on, first it was MC then the bloodwork came back from Prometheus positive for crohns followed by the upper GI barium tests and then the pill camera... I ended up taking Imuran for both the MC and crohns and it's worked out quite well for both.

BTW the GF,DF,SF diet also helps the crohns quite a bit, even with the meds it's an important part of maintaining your health.
