As far as I'm aware, if you're referring to OTC meds, most decongestants such as Mucinex should be OK, and most antihistamines should be OK. Nyquil, for example, should be OK for most of us, but some have to avoid it because it contains high fructose corn syrup and an artificial sweetener, (saccharin sodium). Is this what you had in mind?

Throw in an extra blast of Vitamin D3 while you're at it... you might be able to head it off at the pass.

I'm also a big fan of ginger tea.

Feel better!

I also like the ginger tea. My nutritionist said she and her whole family take the following when they are coming down with a cold and says it works:

2T raw apple cider vinegar
2T lemon
add water and honey

I have not tried it yet.

These archives are SO helpful. Have a bad head cold and took Nyquil last night. Big relapse this morning. Was unaware there is an artificial sweetener in Nyquil, which I determined long ago was a trigger for my symptoms. Guess next time I will search the archives BEFORE I take anything new ;)

This post freaked me out...I though Sara was back. Didn't realize it was from a year ago!

Sorry! Should I have posted somewhere else? Didn't want to make people repeat themselves, so I just searched the archives.

You did the right thing. I bring up old archives all the time. Many of us remember our old friend Sara who disappeared from the forum abruptly, after posting daily. We miss her.

Yeah, I miss Sara.
If I feel I am coming down with a cold, first thing I do is up the Vitamin D to 10,000, Vitamin C to 4,000, take Sambucol, Colloidal Silver, and Manuka Honey. Stops it dead, every time.

At least it did until today - I have been in bed and asleep all day and feel really crap!!! And I have to sing tomorrow morning!! At least it has finally come to a head!! Maybe all the Echinacea did was delay the inevitable!!!  Anne
