Hi Lesley,
Sorry to hear your having trouble with the soaks. If I were you I would dilute both the vinegar and the bleach by 50% with water until you can tolerate it being stronger. I did it for 2 weeks straight. It was a pain in the butt to do but the summer was coming and i wanted pretty toes. So I kept doing it. My girlfriends husband did it for a month but he had a really BAD fungus on his large right toe.
Hope that helps. Keep me posted and I hope it works for you.

Hi Lesley,
I would definitely recommend that you stop! I am off today but when I go back to work on Monday I will ask one of the Doc's that I work with what else you can try. I know there is a medication and it does work, but I don't recommend it because it screws up your liver. I don't think you need anymore problems! I will let you know next week what he says!

I would just use the vinegar, and skip the bleach. Isn't the bleach used mostly to dry up the moisture? I would try just replacing the bleach soak with vinegar - that should be a safe substitution.

Well, if the purpose of the bleach is to dry out the moisture, alcohol would work for that, but I have a hunch that the bleach also plays a part in killing the fungus, because bleach will kill all sorts of molds and fungi, and even destroy the mycotoxins that they produce as byproducts.

Fingernails?? Absolutely
Currently working my way out of a flare up; vertical ridges in tumbnails and a few fingers as well.
Like you, Lesley, I have been extremely fatigued. This is the first "episode" I've experienced as a retired lady. Now that I look back, I cannot imagine how I worked the last 5 years. I am on a liquid diet along with Greek yogurt mixed with Whey Protein. Seems to work for me to give my gut a rest for a week or two, and, of course it's easier to get physical rest as well.
I also started taking Entecort last week. I will gradually return to small quantities of solid food. I avoid breads, most fresh fruit and vegetables. Cooked fruits and veggies are ok once I get settled down.
I have read several of your posts; I hope you are feeling better.

Hi Sallee,
Welcome to the board. I hope you can work out a treatment combination that will bring remission.
Please feel free to ask anything.

Its funny that this thread came up again! To everyone who is fighting with a nail fungus there is good news. There is a laser coming out next month that will cure nail fungus. One of the Doc's that I work will be do a study on it. So keep your fingers and toes crossed that it works. I will post all the info after the study is over.
Hi Sallee,
I haven't worked for a long time. I was injured on the job, so had to stop working. But, although I loved my job, working was always hard. I was so tired and sore all the time.
You can eat yogurt and whey? I am off all dairy, including goat's milk, though I don't think it bothered me. I seem to react to so many things when I am flaring (which has been pretty constant for the last year) I don't want to take a chance.
Mind you, I did a number on my gut with palm oil shortening, and have to get out of this flare.
The people on this board saved my life. I don't know what I would have done without them.
I hope you get better soon!

Robin - I had a laser treatment done over a month ago on 4 of my toes that have fungus. The name of the laser they used was "Sciton", so I'm curious if that's the same one you're referring to??? Anyhow, I have an appointment to go back in February (3 months after the treatment), as they said it will take at least that long to see results. I will update on this thread after I know how it turns out - at this point in time, I'm hopeful that it's working.

P.S. The technician advised to also use white wine vinegar soaks to speed the topical healing.

I, too, have ridges in my nails. Interestingly, the last two weeks they have gotten EXTREMELY dry, drier than they have EVER been. I have very strong nails and they are usually the envy of my friends. Right now the ridges are very pronounced. I've taken to using coconut oil on my hands several times a day. I'm also trying to get better about drinking water, more of it. I'm taking B-100, plus D3 so I don't think I should be low on the B vitamins. Then again, I'm not in remission.
I'm getting a manicure on Friday, so I hope that helps.
Robin, the soaks sound very plausible. I'm going to tell my MIL about them as she has HORRIBLE fungus in her toenails. Thank you for sharing the tips.
Lesley, I hope your toes heal quickly.
