I'm getting a little sick of water. I'm just wondering what everyone else drinks when they are gluten free. Do you find that you can drink juices like oj or apple juice? Could the fact that they are sugary cuase pain. I don't drink soda too much but wouldn't mind having it once in a while.

Hi Belle,

I do fine with juices as long as I dilute them........at least 1/4 juice and 3/4 water. Another trick is flavored water. Put some lemon, orange, or lime slices or berries into a jug of water and keep it cold in the fridge. That way there's no sugar. Dr. Fine always says that sugar feeds the "bad" bacteria in the gut.......something we definitely don't need! Can you do iced tea?

Hi Belle,

I do the same as Polly, dilute most juices with water. I can drink home brewed black coffee with no problem, so that is what I sip in the morning and then switch to ice water later in the day. I find lemon or lime juice is okay in very small 'squeezes' and orange juice , even straight, doesn't bother me if it is only a gulp or two. I use o.j. as a 'candy' for those moments when I need to have something sweet (or else!). In the evening, I have some red wine, also diluted 1 part wine to 3 parts water.

We mix juice with club soda for a flavored soda substitute. You could also try making your own Italian cream soda. There are different recipes out there for less sugar, dairy-free, etc.

what about a blended fruit drink. I have stopped eating fruits and vegetables for now but I'm wondering if it's okay when they are blended?

I drink a glass of coconut water in the morning. The brand is Vita Coco (pineapple flavor), it's very good for you too. They have other flavors, such as mango.

Hi Belle,

I like to put frozen/fresh pineapple chunks in a huge jug of water (Polly gave me the idea). I tried lemons and limes and got heartburn. For Christmas I did cranberries and orange slices and it was a huge hit. I too have a cup of coffee in the AM and then drink tea during the day. If you drink tea just make sure they don't have soy lecithin in it. I found out the hard way and the wonderful people here told me that was the cause of my problems. Once I took it out I was fine. AS for soda I miss it sometimes too. So to compensate for it I make my own. I can only make orange right now but hopefully I can come up with others soon. Here the recipe....2-3 clementines cut into pieces, throw them into a sauce pan with a little water (2-3 tablespoons). Boil until clementines are mushy. Let cool and remove the skins place the rest in a blender. Blend on high for a couple of seconds. It should be a little thick. Place a little bit in the bottom of a glass and club soda and a little honey. And there you have it homemade orange soda. Adjust everything to your liking. I have tried with mango, strawberries and other kinds of fruit but this is my favorite and its the closest thing to Sunkist! The fruit is cooked so I don't have to worry so much about bothering me. Like you I haven't introduced raw fruits or vegetables back into my diet.

I also don't want to go off raw fruits and veggies forever. When can I reintroduce them. That is the hardest for me as salad is my favorite food.

You probably should wait until after you've been in remission for at least a few months before trying to reintroduce foods into your diet, and go slowly at first, with small amounts, gradually increasing them, if they don't cause any problems. Some of us have to wait for a year or two before we're able to successfully reintroduce foods.

the problem is that because I am not eating raw fruits and veggies, I am now getting constipated. So what do you do about that?

Well, you may have to find the right "dosage" of raw fruits and veggies, or juices. It can be a balancing act, sometimes, for those of us who have C, or alternating D and C.

Belle, when you find your dosage let me know please.

I have not gone raw yet. Today I made a soup from a meat stock base to which I added all sorts of veggies. Believe me they were well cooked, but something there disagreed with me. They haven't caused D, just gurgling, bloating, some nausea and severe discomfort.

I take stool softeners, miralax at night, and senacort in the morning. Every few days I add something called Swiss Kriss (natural laxative) which worked for me pre-MC, and then I can get things going, although it's not Norman.

I don't know what else to tell you, I hope you find the happy medium soon.
