Thought I was doing so good.....
Haven't been on the board for awhile because I was doing so good; almost didn't want to jinx it, ya know? Plus I find sometimes my anxiety factor goes up when reading all the posts. For over a month, I haven't taken any Imodium or any other meds and I have 1 or two BM's a day, all firm. Not sure if that is what is considered a normal "Norman" but I will take it! LOL My problem is I went to the PA who specializes in hormone replacement therapy, for blood test results and because for the last few days have not been feeling as great as the last couple of weeks. (aches, pains in joints, gastro distress, slight nausea). On one of my posts I had mentioned that my previous B12 results was 1383! Tex was a little surprised at how high it was (me too). I decided to stop taking the B vitamins, just to see if my B12 would come down. And it did. To 552. (This in the span of 5-6 weeks).
My B5 was 956, also good. BUT, my B1 and B2 were literally below the charts the B1 was <7 and the B2 was <5, . The previous blood test before my most recent one was 9 for B1 and 12.9 for B2, so you can see why I am so shocked at the decrease! So, I need to up my B1 and B2 STAT and the multicomplex B pills don't have near enough of the B1 and 2 to significantly up my count. Anyone know of a good B1 and B2 I can take? Or get at Whole Foods? Also, any one know why my B1 and B2 went down so significantly in such as short amount of time? Or is the normal for MC people who don't take a B complex? Help! I so don't want the side effects of a B1 and B2 shortage!!!!

Hi Mandy,
Wow, your situation sounds very similar to mine! I just posted about having a new symptom, after feeling well, coming off the immodium, having Norman, etc for several weeks now. What's happening with me is I breifly feel a little queasy and then get very sleepy. That lasts a couple of hours and then my lower body starts to ache, not like muscle soreness or cramps, but an achiness from inside. Is that what you are having? It sounded like you have similar symptoms, but maybe not in that order. I'll be interested in hearing what others have to say.

I took the 2 week gluten free challenge - it looks like the gluten free diet is the way to go...

Hi Lesley,
Nope, I haven't seen that one, but I think I can relate.
I hadn't thought that it might be vitamin related either, until I saw Mandy's post. It has only happened to me twice so far, that I know of. Of course, now I am paying attention... so might notice it more...
Periodic episodes of major sleepiness will NOT be helpful at work, if this continues. :(
Happy New Year, ya'll!

Robin, the pains and aches I have been feeling are confusing. I truly believe that most MC symptoms, ie. gastric distress, diarrhea, aches, headaches, fatigue are also the same symptoms that are experienced with people who have a hormonal imbalance and vitamin deficiency. The first time I typed those symptoms into google I came up with adrenal fatigue, perimenopause/menopause, vitamin (insert any type here) deficiencies, along with other various diagnosis. So, since it seems that more women then men get this disease, it is harder to say what exactly is causing the aches, etc. I so believe in taking a large amount of blood tests every 4-6 weeks, only because EVERY TIME something else pops up that I am low/deficient in that wasn't there before. For example, my iron...fine one time, the next month, low. My B vitamins, borderline low, then almost non existent the next. So, if I waited to have my blood work done every 3-4 months, who knows where I might be low/high in! Hormones are also very important to check! They seem to control everything and if they are out of whack, then it seems that everything else declines. Tex, please chime in if I am wrong!!! If everyone is watching their food intake like a hawk, it only makes sense that one should be watching their blood work too. Just my 2cents

Well, you are correct about hormones controlling most processes in the body, and the tricky part is that MC can affect hormonal output, and conversely, hormones, (including hormonal supplements), can affect MC, (and can cause MC reactions).Mandy wrote:Hormones are also very important to check! As Robin mentioned, though, most of us would probably have a problem convincing our doctor to do that many blood tests, and especially doing them so often, (unless we were taking an immune system suppressant).
Tex
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Robin and Tex,
I have an awesome PA. She is almost as good at Tex in figuring out blood work and she is more than delighted to prescribe as much blood work as I want. She is quite the detective/expert on hormones and Robin she is more in your neck of the woods than mine. She works in Peoria, 75th Ave and Deer Valley. I think you would love her and I know she would be quite surprised to find another MC person to work with! Also, I have found that PA's are more receptive to client input/requests than doctors are. Not sure why, but it seems to be in my case.
