I just got home from work and haven't heard any news about about Rita! I am going to check out the news!

Barb, you crack me up! Fizzle's to a drizzle...you sound like Snoop Dog (I had to ask my daughter who he was) on that Chrysler commercial with Lee Iacoca (sp)!

We are getting reports on Rita here and I must say it does not look good for the poor people in that area who have already been through enough. Just have to hope that it dies before it can do too much damage. They tells us that Texas is in the line of fire. Does that mean that Tex could be effected? And Lucy, what is happening with her situation?

Keeping fingers crossed for everybody :xfingers: :xfingers: :xfingers:

Liz,

Yes, I will be affected by Rita--how much, depends on where it actually makes landfall. I live about 150 miles inland, so hopefully it will be much weaker by the time it passes through here.

I believe that Luce evacuated this morning. She lives in Houston, which is right on the coast, and could have major water and wind damage. Houston will be on the wet side of it, at landfall.

Love,
Wayne

We're looking better here, as time goes by. The forcasters keep moving the projected path farther East. We will be on the dry side, and probably won't have a serious wind problem.

Some of the locals are already complainiing that they needed rain, and now our rain chances are going down significantly.

Wayne,

As big as that storm is you will probably get some rain and wind -

I hope Lucy got her mother out of Houston before the traffic jams started; I wouldn't like to see her stuck on the interstate in a hot car w/o bathrooms, food and water with her mother; very difficult situation. It seems the evacuees are stuck on I-45 going North at next to no speed; gas stations along the interstate out of gas.....

If anyone is in contact with Lucy please let us know how she fares.

Love,
Karen

Hi Karen,

I believe that Luce left Wednesday morning, so she should be alright. The highways all over the southeastern half of Texas were pretty rough, by Wednesday evening, with many reports of families spending 10 to 15 hours driving, and only moving 50 or 60 miles. Things were really out of hand by yesterday. This area is full of evacuees, and so is every town and city for hundreds of miles around.

Everyone recommended evacuating, but the catch is, there is no way the highway system will allow that many people to exit an area in a reasonably short period of time. By reasonably short, I mean days, (hours are out of the question). Stations are out of gas all over--even up in this area where I leve. This is probably the greatest exodus since the parting of the Red Sea.

Love,
Wayne

I know there is nothing funny about the situation, Wayne, but your last comment cracked me up. I love your sense of humor.

This sounds like an old blues song. The levees have crumbled, there's gridlock on the freeway, and now a bus full of elderly people has exploded. I cannot believe the horror that is going on with our Southern cousins. When will it ever end?
