It HURTS!

Post by Lesley »

Everything hurts going down. Heartburn is much worse when I am empty, so I have to eat. But it is so painful. I can't believe that this is "a hypersensitive esophagus" as the doc suggested, based on tests done TWO YEARS AGO, prior to surgery, prior to gastroparesis, prior to MC.

Something is wrong and getting wronger.

I have emailed my new doc 2x now. I haven't heard back. The docs or their staff are supposed to answer within 48 hours. Needless to say I am not a happy camper.
After the holidays I will let him know how I feel about getting no answers.

I have to make sure I eat so my stomach isn't empty. I have to go very slowly, small bites, and let each bite go down so that I get some food in my stomach. Mashed potato is my go to because it is easy to get down bit by bit. Then I can go for protein.

Thanks Gabby.

Lesley,
Well, the new doc seemed so promising based on his apparent knowedge of MC but if you don't get answers then that's no good. Any word from them recently?

No. I am hoping it's because of the holidays. That's me hoping for the best, and giving them the benefit of the doubt. If he doesn't come through I don't know what I will do.

Lesley, I identified potatoes as my heartburn trigger yesterday! That and tomatoes (nightshades). How are you feeling now? Any resolution? Susie

Hi Susie,

There are certain foods that aggravate heartburn for me more than others. When it is bad everything aggravates and burns going down, even water.
Those include salt, spices, bananas, any acidic fruit or veg among others. Potatoes don't do it unless everything is.

I find my heartburn and pain on swallowing worsen in direct relation to my bowel discomfort. When I am bloated and gassy with stomach cramps my heartburn is worse.
I am taking pepcid now, which helps somewhat.

I heard from my doctor, (he was away over the holidays) who said my former endoscopy (about a year ago) showed nothing untoward in my esophagus, so he continues to believe that it (esophagus) is ultra sensitive. I don't quite buy that, but the only way to find out is by doing more invasive tests, which I really don't want. I just have to keep going and enjoy when it is not as bad.

Glad you found your culprit.
