Hemmoriods

Post by Rhyes »

I have been having some severe hemmoroids, at least that's what I think it is. It's a big red lump litterally sticking out of my bum! I've also noticed when my tummy is distended it sticks out further, and when I put preparation H on it, sometimes my distention goes down. Does anyone know if this is a hemmoroid? I'm not sure if it is from going to the bathroom so many times per day, even though I never have to strain, or my weightlifting. This morning when I went to the bathroom (one of the times) I had stringy mucus in it, it looked just like snot. Could this be from my sinus drainage. Food is coming out undigested, so I figure this could to. The past couple of days that I have been under the weather, my tummy has been a lot worse. Could the drainage be upsetting my belly more? I know, so many questions, but I get such good input from all of you.
Tex, I read your post about the Lialda. I actually stopped taking if the last two weeks of December and no improvement at all. I also stopped taking all of my vitamins, but have since started those again as well.

That sure sounds like one. They're a common side effect of MC, caused by all the frequent episodes of D, combined with inflammatory agents in the fecal stream - been there, done that.

When the intestines are severely inflamed, they produce copious amounts of mucus, in an effort to protect the delicate mucosal surface from the inflammatory agents in the fecal stream. It's often associated with undigested food, but both the mucus and the undigested food are the result of the inflammation, (IOW, the mucus does not cause poor digestion, and poor digestion does not cause the mucus - inflammation causes both).

When those two symptoms are present, you are definitely in a fully-developed flare. Something that you are ingesting is really irritating your digestive system. I have no idea if it's possible for sinus drainage to interfere with digestion, but I doubt that it's contributing significantly to the mucus that you are seeing in the bowl.

I can't keep track of everyone's diet, but if you're not avoiding all gluten, dairy, and soy, you probably should be, and you may need to start considering the removal of other potential food-sensitivities, or better yet, have some tests done at Enterolab, in order to pinpoint your food-sensitivities, and eliminate a bunch of trial and error testing.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks for the info. Tex. I may just eat meat and cooked veggies for a week or so and see what happens. This is by far the worst flare I've ever had. Any idea on vitamins? I take a multi, E, B-50 complex, and a C, mostly Nature Valley from Wally World. I also take half of a Sam-e everyday, but I had these symptoms well before I ever started that. It really does seem to help with my mood and my joints (from running). Because this flare is so bad, I'm going to wait until after my endoscopy on Monday, but I may start the Prednisone. I'll see if I can get it under control for the next week though. This is really kicking my butt this time :(

Rhyes,

If I were you I would try to work with diet first. Give it a week. And if you do go on steroids, see if you can get entocort. Prednisone is SO harsh, and difficult to kick.

I don't have haemorroids, but I certainly had similar flare. I couldn't get it under any sort of control till I stopped eating chicken and rice. Another member here is also sensitive to chicken, like me, and is also sensitive to tuna.
I would change your food completely and stick to 2 foods for a few days. Cut out soy, corn, dairy, eggs, rice, poultry and see what happens.
I also got desperate and went on prednisone. For me it was a mistake. It took me so long to get off it.

It's all easy in hindsight, and I know how it feels right now. As I said, I am NOT out of the woods. I battle with C, but the minute I eat something even remotely objectionable to my gut it lets me know about it.

BTW - C is VERY hard to manage!
