We also have Roni in Austin, (roughly 150 miles inland), G'ma Mary, down in the Rio Grande Valley, and Brenda in Amarillo. Brenda should be ok up there on the high plains, and it currently looks as though Rita may make landfall a long way northeast of the Valley.

The tracking map this morning shows the path to be a little farther east. Most of us may be on the dry side of it, (IOW, less flooding), but it doesn't look good for Houston. I'm more than a little concerned about the oil refineries in the Houston and Texas City areas.

It may pass just a little east of where I'm located. Also, the map shows a little slower forward movement. It's projected to pass by here Saturday, later in the day. Of course, anything could change, at any time.

Thanks, Wayne

I saw the change in the projected path. Looks like Houston is in big trouble. I surely hope it slows down a LOT before it hits. Also hoping it won't hang around too long.

Take care - all of you in that neck of the woods.

Not much more I can add here, except do whatever you need to do to be safe. I think having seen what happened with Katrina has put everyone on pins and needles. And thanks Wayne  I hadn't thought about what could happen with all those oil wells, NOW I will be thinking about that too!!!

I'm thinking of all of you! Selfishly, I'm glad my daughter moved from Galveston and Houston to Arizona!

Maybe we should set up an email chain. You know where each person emails one or two other people to let them know the news. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to always have one in place, just in case.

Hi Jean,

There's certainly nothing wrong with an e-mail chain. Be aware that if the board goes down, my e-mail service will probably be down also, due to the problem of linked communications lines in this area.

Currently, though, the projected track for Rita has been moved fatther East, and it's beginning to appear that we may not even get any rain out of it. If the local forcasts are correct, there shouldn't be any significant problems locally, so the board probably won't be at risk of being shut down.

Time will tell, but right now, things look a lot brighter in this part of Texas.

Love,
Wayne
