Karen,
Don't beat yourself up, (the MC is already more punishment than any of us deserve), it takes time to become comfortable with controlling this disease. You just have to do your best, and take it one day at a time - you'll get there. We all have to go through a learning curve.

Hi Karen,
I agree with Tex. Go easier on yourself. I've been at this for almost 4 months and I'm still learning. I consider myself a very quick study so these set backs really do bother me, too. I'm just taking comfort in folks' comments here and trying to learn from them. I do understand the . I shed them from time to time myself.
IMO, I'd bet the oatmeal is what set you off. When I tried it again, the result was a massive headache, exhaustion, and D. If your friend's chocolate cake did not have oats in it and it was gf/sf/ef/df, I'd guess it was safe.
Hang in there. Keep writing.

Flair ups of Colitis
Sorry you had such a nasty episode. It takes so little to flair up a bout of colitis. I try to not vary foods too much in a couple of days and tought I had it all figured out. I have been GF and DF for about 6 weeks and was symptom free. Then I ate too many raw vegetables one night and salads (not iceburg lettuce) two days straight running. No gluten, but still had a flair up. So I now know to limit raw vegetables more diligently.
I have been considering the Ideal Protein Diet. It can be gluten free, but I am concerned about the quantity of raw vegetables since I got into trouble with it this once. I don't want to do anything to take me back where I was with the colitis.

Ideal Protein Diet
I am considering going on this diet. I checked and I can be GF on the diet. Does anyone have any experience with this diet?
I've never heard of it before, but since it's a weight loss diet, I doubt that it will provide the nutrition needed to help heal MC. I'm just guessing, though. I would be surprised if any other members here have tried it, but we'll see.
Most of us are also sensitive to the protein in all dairy products, (casein), so if the diet includes any dairy products, it has a slim chance of working for MC. If you're looking for a diet that will work for most of us, you might consider the paleo diet.
