hi, Iam back from my 7 week trip, all went surprisingly well, still on endocort after 8 months at 9mg a day and have noticed significant hair loss not in patches but all over when I brush my hair or wash it I seem to have loads come out, is this the endocort, any ideas? any shampoo to help or vitamins, thanks Beni

Sorry you are having to deal with hair loss. While on asocal, I also had hair loss. After I stopped taking it, most of what I lost came back. I have a low thyroid plus I am on an antidepressant. My psychiatrist recommended I take 400 mcg Selenium a day. He said "sometimes" that helps if the hair loss is from this particular medication. Since I started the Selenium, my hair is not as thin as it was. Hope you find some answers.
I checked with my pharmacist about the asocal and the antidepressants. Hair loss is a rare side affect of all of them. Ouch!

Hi Beni,
It's good to see that the trip went so well. The hair loss is almost certainly associated with the Entocort. Not everyone has that side effect, but some obviously do. For most patients, hair growth usually is restored to normal, as the last of the Entocort passes out of the body, (that can take a while, though).
Welcome back.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I've been taking Entocort on and off for 4 1/2 years and haven't noticed any hair loss. I have pretty thick hair, however, and probably wouldn't notice if I lost any. It seems to me that I have more facial hair growth which may be attributed menopause instead of Entocort.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
thanks for the replies, I am on thyroxin for my thyroid so it shouldnt be that, I will try selenium, feel sure its the endocort but I think I would rather be bald than go back to the big D again!!!!!!!!!!!! its how I feel on the inside that counts not what I look like on the outside, besides I got a great tan on holiday, big vit D, so at the moment I dont mind too much , thanks again, Beni

Joan,
When you post on a 2-year-old thread, you really should point out that you're reincarnating an old thread, otherwise everyone else tends to just assume that it's a current thread. You seem to do this fairly regularly, and it always leads to confusion. Am I the only one who reads the dates on topics and posts?
Beni has been in remission for a couple of years now, and hopefully she's still doing fine.
