Can a flu shot cause a major flare up?
My husband has had mc for about 7 months and has had watery d and loose baby like stools probably 2 -4 times a day, usually only 2. He was just starting to get more formation like bullets about 10 days ago. Then he went and got a flu shot. In 24 hours he went at least 15 -20 times and mostly watery d. He's never done that. The frequency has tapered down now but consistency is back to watery d and loose. Could there possibly be something in the fluzone shot that did this to him? Have you heard of this happening before? Thanks
Definitely. We have more than one member who has had a severe reaction to a flu shot. That suggests that your husband might possibly be sensitive to eggs, and if he had any anaphylactic symptoms, (any type of rash, itching, elevated heart rate, blood pressure excursions, etc.), he may have mast cell issues, as well. You may find these old threads informative:jta wrote:Have you heard of this happening before?

This is the thread that Mary Beth was referring to in the thread above:

Post number 8 in the thread at the link below, (by Mary Beth), contains some great insight into this issue:

You may find this one particularly interesting, since Tanya's reaction was similar to your husband's:

There are many other discussions, which can be found by searching the archives for the key words flu+shot, but these are probably some of the best.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
